Zut! I forgot to hit the poll option ....

What I'm looking for is: Was Sharkey winning, then spaced out? Was Sharkey ahead, but fading? Was Dempsey loosing some battles but winning the war?

Maybe I'm hindsighting, but I think Dempsey was making the sort of fight that he wanted and the tide was turning.

Q: Does anyone know why the youtubes double-display?

This is one of the better examples of a more experienced fighter making his oponent fight the fight that he wants.

Dempsey esentialy won this fight on intangibles and Sharkey beat himself.

Hmmmm.... I've only seen clipse of this fight from '27..... Reports indicate that Sharkman was having a good time out-boxing the older and slower Dempsey for the first 6 rds of action...... However, after Dempsey fouled Sharkey in rd 7, Sharkey dropped his guard to whine to the referee.... At that moment, Jack Dempsey threw a left-hook from Hell's Kitchen and KO'd Sharkey with the blow..... Jack Dempsey wins.....

Sharkey could have won the fight but he didnt.

Dempsey made him fight the fight that Jack wanted.

Dempsey went to the body and hurt Sharkey.

Soon Sharkey was fouling him back and fighting it out.

Then it got hot in the kitchen for Sharkey.

I think Dempsey made Sharkey lose his **** and then capitalized. Had the KO no occurred there, I still don't think Sharkey would have won, he wasn't standing up mentally and Dempsey was hurting him to the body. I give Dempsey full credit for this win, Sharkey took his eyes off his opponent and left himself open and paid the price, the KO punch was legitimate. Was Dempsey landing low? Yeah, so was Sharkey, it was a rough fight. If it was bothering Sharkey that much he should have waited until a point where Dempsey wasn't standing right next to him to complain to the ref.

I just read an interesting article about the fight. The referee says there was a low blow but it wasn't enough to warrant a disqualification, one of the judges said that a couple of punches went low but that they weren't enough to do any harm or warrant a disqualification. One judge said he saw three punches land low and he thinks they weakened Sharkey. William Muldoon said that it was a right hand to the solar plexus and that "it was all bunk" speaking of the low blows. Also, out of the scorecards of the two judges and the referee 5 rounds were even, 6 for Dempsey and 7 for Sharkey. I would post the article, but I don't know how. Also, Sharkey suffered "intestinal hemorrhaging" after the bout.

    Dempsey's chest measurements
were 39 normal, 43 extended; Shar-
    key's 39 1/2 and 43 1/2.

    Dempsey's blood pressure was 135
    systolic and 85 diastolic; Sharkey's
    128 and 90.

Both men were both diagnosed as pre-hypertension and were told to fight in Yankee Stadium before 80,000 fans could be a risk to their candy-asses.

Those blood pressure ranges are not extreme and within normal ranges. What is your point?

Sharkey got off to an early lead, but Dempsey clawed and ground his way back, ultimately had Sharkey hurt and frazzled. Watch Sharkey as he writhes on the canvass, he looks like he can't decide whether to hold his chin or his groin. I think he couldn't hold off Dempsey any longer and he was hoping to "steal" the fight on a foul, or at least catch a break.

Dempsey dug into Sharkey all fight long. Sharkey couldn't do much but fight inside with him.

All Sharkey had to do was take his eyes of Jack for one second and then BAM! Good night Sharkey.

    Dempsey was king here.

People bring up the foul in round 7. But Sharkey start it himself. When he hit Dempsey after the bell. Sharkey was asking to be foul back.

Dempsey, later in life said he thought Sharkey was going to ko him,his corner just said "keep pounding his gut ", they thought that was Sharkey's weakness.Whether the body punch was low or not ,the left hook that kod Sharkey wasn't.
