I gave McCallum rounds 1,5,6,8 and 11. I gave Toney rounds 2,4,7,9,10 and 12. I had round 3 even.

I gave Toney rounds 1,2,6,7 and 8. I gave McCallum rounds 4,5,9,10,11 and 12. I had round 3 even.


Haven't scored the third fight.

I originally had Toney by three points when i first watched the first fight. But I watched the fight again a couple of years later, and had Toney taking it a bit closer. Even though it was close I think Toney took the first fight rather clearly. There were a few swing rounds, but I've given McCallum most of them in the scorecard I posted.


The second fight is arguable both ways. Toney lost it for me more through inactivity than anything else.

 

Perhaps Russ, not really sure. 2 of the judges in the second fight had ridiculously wide cards, they really are inexplicable to me.

 

McCallum looked slow and washed up in the rematch.Toney really was terrible that night.

 

I saw the first meeting live, and felt that McCallum had been robbed. I only saw one of the next two meetings ( can't remember which, ) and gave it to Toney.

 

Nah, only the first is good.

 

I re-watched the first fight just the other day, and I honestly don't believe a score in favour of McCallum can be justified. It's strange because I only had Toney up by a mere 2 points, but I feel as if it was a clear win in the end. One of the "close but clear" variety certainly. Although Mike has had his good rounds, Toney was the man who had the clear, clean, effective, significant scoring attacks, and the way he performed in the majority of the last 4-5 rounds was enough to seal a great victory IMO.

I was actually going to make a thread about Toney-McCallum I today, but since this thread is already on there that would probably be overkill.

I was just kind of blown away by what a great great fight it is. It's not a thriller exactly, not a high drama up n down war, but it's just my idea of a really high quality boxing match, superb skills and entertainment. It's definitely the most high quality middleweight fight of the past 20 years IMO (better than Jones-Hopkins). I think that version of McCallum was a very very good mw, certainly good enough to be dominating the current division. And obviously then, I thought Toney was absolutely superb. I'd go so far as to say it's the most all-round impressive fight of his career, considering the standard of opposition.

McCallum's chin is freakishly strong throughout, which only increases my admiration for the performance of James Toney because I do feel like he had the Bodysnatcher on the brink of being dropped in the last 10 seconds of the final round.

2-1 Toney. I had James winning the first very close great fight and Mike winning the second and then Toney took the third. Only scorecard I remember was I had the first fight 115-114 Toney.

 

Toney clearly won the first fight, landing the better punches.

The 2nd fight was a Toney win/draw. It is difficult to see McCallum winning with the point deduction(which was nit pickey).

Toney easily won the 3rd.

I've only seen and scored the first fight, which I gave to Toney by a point, mainly due to his late round (particularly the last) surge. Up until that point the fight had been dead even. Don't really have much interest in watching either of the other two fights right now, though I may eventually score the second.

 

You could give 12th 10-8 to Toney, but I think McCallum didn't deserved that deduction. He clearly lost that round, but fought bravely. Amazing fight though. Example of elite class boxing skills.
