Easily, beating him to the punch...Pot shot his way to a boring UD...I'm pretty sure Floyd will be able to land that right hand lead at times and evade most of Vernon shots....If Mora and plodding Mayorga was successful against Forrest what makes you think Floyd cant do it?

You brought up height...That point is moot given that Vernon avoids his height advantage...Thats a moot point!

Thats where you're wrong. What good is that "skilled counterpunching, height and reach advantages" gonna do Forrest if he's gonna be tired b the end of the 4th round? Uncle Rogers gameplan would be:

The majority of response from Floyd fanatics, and I don't mean knowledgeable fans, but FANATICS was that Floyd would counterpunch the **** out of Forrest by boxing off the back foot.

That is ridiculous. You got a guy who's giving up an inch of reach and four inches of height going up against a slick boxer who isn't prone to making mistakes, and he's going to counterpunch the **** out of him?

Sugar Shane who was PfP #1 and looked to be unbeatable at the time, was a 7/1 favorite against Forrest, tried boxing off the back foot against Forrest. Shane had Forrest beat in the speed department in every single category, foot and hand, yet was unable to land anything effective on Forrest.

Why?

Because while Forrest was the slower man, he was a skilled, slick counterpuncher, not prone to making mistakes, and most importantly had a considerable size advantage.

The result was a one sided decision in favor of Forrest that may have went the other way, had Mosley decided to fight more and box less.

Mayorga proved that Forrest didn't particularly care for pressure, and Ike Quartey had similiar success when he fought against Forrest as well.

But as far as Floyd is concerned, many believe that not only would he win today by using that tactic, but that he would have beaten Forrest in his prime.

Well here's another example from another historical perspective.

Years ago, Papa Mayweather got in the ring with a guy that was a larger counterpuncher like Forrest, and attempted to box him off his back foot. The man's name was Leonard, and the result was a one sided beating in favor of the bigger man.

Where do ya'll think they come up with, "A skilled big man beats a skilled little man?"

Do you think they just magically pulled that out of their ass? Forrest isn't a face foward brawler, he's not Margarito, he's a SKILLED BIG MAN with A CONSIDERABLE size advantage over Floyd.

Since I was talking about Leonard, let me give you another example.

Leonard met a guy who had similiar characteristics when he fought Hearns; however, Leonard pressed the fight and it was absolutely pivotal to his success. This fight alone is the majority reason of why Leonard is considered to be one of the greatest fighters of all time.

Imagine if he decided to box off his back foot for the entire fight. I'll tell you one thing, it would not have had the same result and probably would have ended faster with Hearns raising his hands in victory.

And yes, Forrest is no Hearns, but Mayweather is no Leonard, ESPECIALLY at his highest weight of 154.

So Floyd fanatics in my mind are crazy to assume that Floyd has more explosive power than Mosley, regardless of whether he's better at defense, that would be necessary to repeatedly counter and tag Forrest who has a considerable size advantage and fights out of a counterpuncher's lean.

That's **** is just baffling to me.

And you know what, I understand that Floyd is adaptable, and I accept the fact that Floyd may decide to put his hands up, move his head, and take the fight inside, but if his recent fights are any indication of what he would do, he probably would take NO risks.

Not to mention the fact that I've seen very little combinations being thrown at 147 and up, which would be pivotal to his success against a guy like Forrest.

Even when Oscar started to tire in the fight with Mayweather, and Roger Mayweather was yelling for Floyd to let his hands go, Floyd was reluctant to do so.

The fact is, in Floyd's recent fights he has taken NO risks, so I feel confident picking Forrest over Floyd given Floyd's most recent peformances.

That's not to say that he couldn't be the aggressor and win with his faster hands, I'm just saying he probably wouldn't. In fact, he would never take this fight as it is too much risk, too little reward.

And some of ya'll are going to bring up Mora, but with Mora you have a guy who has the same reach and same height as Forrest, and while not as skilled, could pull off the kind of upset you witnessed against a "can't get up for this guy" Vernon Forrest.

You can have those kind of outcomes when you have to counterpunchers fighting one another with the same size, when both are completely unwilling to press the fight.

In the second fight, Vernon Forrest proved that while he isn't the same fighter that beat Mosley, he also wasn't completely shot in decisively beating Mora.

And lastly why is this an important fight? Because Floyd has never been in the ring with a SKILLED COUNTERPUNCHER with a SIZE ADVANTAGE.

And you can say Oscar all you want, but Oscar did NOT fight Mayweather like a counterpuncher, was never that great of a counterpuncher in the first place, and chose to be the aggressor.

Not to mention, a year later a former featherweight beat the **** outta Oscar.
