The first olympic gold medalist in boxing for the Dominican Republic, Felix Diaz, has turned pro today. He signed a contract with Arena Boxing and because he signed with them he will receive a bonus as well.:hat A press conference was held today at 1000 in the morning here in the Dominican Republic announcing him entering the pro ranks. Being the 1st olympic gold medalist for Dominican Republic boxing, Felix has already received precious medals from the Dominican Republic worth up to more than 225,000 dollars, plus an all-terrain vehicle, and an apartment.:nut And who said life ain't good!:D

He's a bit of an animal - but only beat our guy John Joe Joyce (Ireland) on a countback. Joyce got a public warning in the fight but Diaz should have got one too.

He'll be a great pro, so rough.

Is Arena taking over or is Arena taking over?

Excellent news! Looking forward to his debut.

He won gold at light-welter. He'll probably compete at welter in the pro's.

he was the luckiest gold medalist i have ever seen . he beat our lad in ireland on a countback which he was very luck to get and then he beat the french lad when the french lad got 2 point deduction . he was a very sloppy fighter he could make a dencent pro though

I think he'll be better as a pro than he was as an amateur anyway. I think his style is a bit more suited. Looks aggressive and phyiscally very strong. With those attributes, if he shows a chin and a good inside game he could be a Ricky Hatton type of fighter (not saying he'll achieve anything on that level though, maybe he will but who knows?)

Arena is signing so many awesome fighters that I wonder where they get all that money from (considering they are way smaller compared to Top Rank, DKP and GBP).

My common sense says that they are doing some fishy business here. It's also strange that Öner, the CEO, is the face of Arena, but who the real boss is is still a mystery as far as I know.

Arena is build like a corporation and therefore has sold some kinda stock option of there body which clearly sees the success of there boxers in the recent future. I heard some amounts in the range of $25-35 million Arena has gained tru investors...

Arena is being smart, they are taking young guys, unlike other promotion company that want big names right away, and most of their fighters are international fighters because he gives them a chance and hell they take it.
