JMM is winning and winning quality fights, but his resume pre-2007 sucks.

Compare it to Mayweather's or Pacquiao's wins.

Mayweather: Genaro Hernandez, Angel Manfredy, Goyo Vargas, Diego Corrales, Carlos Hernandez, Carlos Gerena, Jesus Chavez, Jose Luis Castillo x2, DeMarcus Corley, Phillip N'Dou, Arturo Gatti, Sharmba Mitchell, Zab Judah, Carlos Baldomir, Oscar de la Hoya, Ricky Hatton.

Pacquiao: Chatchai Sasakul, Nedal Hussein, L. Ledwaba, Jorge Eliecer Julio, Marco Antonio Barrera x2, Erik Morales x3, Juan Manuel Marquez, Oscar Larios, Jorge Solis, David Diaz, Oscar de la Hoya.

Marquez: Agapito Sanchez, Robbie Pedden, Derrick Gainer, Victor Polo, Marco Antonio Barrera, Rocky Juarez, Joel Casamayor, Juan Diaz.

Marquez' resume as a whole looks pretty damn great to me. IT has ATG LEGEND written all over it.

I would have loved to see Marquez in there with a prime Barrera or Morales. Primes didn't overlap though.

marquez should be in a few more mega fights. but i give him all the credit in the world as he stands becuase he has fought quality fights and performed excellent, so to some extent I dont need to see names like Naz etc on his record becuase I feel he would have won if they fought

Agreed, generally. Before 2007, JMM was a fighter respected based on the closeness of his losses more than based on his wins. He could have had quite a few better names on his record, but he's made quite a few dumb career decisions that hampered his ability to fight the top names.

True Freddy, I think the real Diaz would have beaten pacman. I wouldn't be shocked if John beat Pac either. A few years back of course.

JMM will be ATG material with just a couple more big wins. He is on the brink of greatness now in terms of resume.

He's already in MAB, Erik's and Pac's level. He's an ATG. He is even more skilled than these 3 technically. He has 1 win against pac in my book.

Got all his fights on dvd (minus mexico ones) and the fighters he developed on were top quality fighters. Sure they don't add to his legacy like names such as Barrera and Pacqiauo but despite some poor resumes he was fighting quality opponents from the get go. I don't think he avoided people its just he wasen't as exciting as Barrera and Morales and why would anyone wanna fight a young technically sound counterpuncher who makes evreyone look bad.

Its great, and would have been quite better if fighters like Naseem Hamed did'nt petition the alphabet groups to bypass their mandatory when that mandatory was Juan Manuel Marquez.

Its the same with MAB and Morales.....those two got so comfortable fighting eachother, that they'd only take gimme defenses when they were'nt fighting eachother.
.....completely ignoring what only a few astute journalist were calling the best featherweight at the time, Juan Manuel Marquez.

For those who doubted that JMM was a feared fighter back in his prime years, what he's doing today can more than lend credence to why this man was being ignored in the past.
