Guzman is out of the IBF fight with Romanov. I think Buncey said the tournament clashed with another fight that was on Setanta...
Contrary to reports of a Joan Guzman (29-0, 17KOs) vs. Yuri Romanov (21-2, 14KOs) title bout taking place on May 1 in Las Vegas, has been informed that the IBF plans to bypass Guzman due to his administrative suspension in Mississippi. I reported the news two weeks ago regarding the IBFs approval of a Guzman-Romanov bout for the lightweight title that was left vacant when Nate Campbell was unable to make weight for his mandatory defense against Ali Funeka on Feb. 14. When the IBF approved the title bout, they [by error?] overlooked Guzmans trouble with the Mississippi commission. Guzmans administrative suspension stems from his inability to make weight for last Septembers title bout with Nate Campbell. After Guzman was unable to make weight, Campbell agreed to fight him at a higher weight, but Guzman complained that he was feeling sick and refused to move forward with the fight. To my knowledge, none of the other commissions are honoring Guzmans administrative suspension from Mississippi, which makes the IBFs decision a bit strange. At the same time the issue has not been tackled by another commission, that I know of, and the suspension could very well prevent Guzman from fighting in one state or another.
I agree. I wish he'd get his act together. He should be in the ring mixing it with the Pacmans and JMMs of this world. A great talent but he's running out of time.
I would just like Setanta to show me ANY fight and not a blue screen or some other technical c*ck up!
I wouldn't mind seeing Vit Klit beat up Gomez, the lightweight tourney, Holt vs Bradley or Williams vs Winky Any of these
Guzman has now missed out on fights with Harrison, Campbell and Romanov??? Wow, what a way to reduce the value of your record. Those three names could really catapult him given the circumstances i.e. winning belts.
How about giving (future) Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World; Audley 'A-Force' Harrison a ten fight, in house deal with Setanta? :think Given his incredible talent and popularity with the British public, it would make perfect sense.
