legacy - DM skills - DM popularity (outside Germany) - Jirov , (inside Germany) - DM The fight Jirov-Toney was classic not because Jirov but because of Toney.
I'm giving Jirov credit for his effort in that match, I mean he clearly lost but he gave Toney a tough fight. He kept trying all night long, to the very last second. Jirov proved his toughness, and he really brought out the best in Toney. Toney has a bad habit of fighting to the level of his opponent. Both men threw 1000+ punches that night. Two totally different styles, it was just a classic fight, also style-wise.
HE deserves credit but if Jirov fought just another "regular" cruiser people would not remember that fight as a legendary. What made it legendary was because that fight was really good but more importantly that Toney won CW title and beat #1 cruiser at that time.
And it was a close fought UD; the best win of DM's career. RJ blew him away nonchalontly a few months later. Puts a few things in persepctive.
Lucky punch ? How many ribs did Roy broke beside Hills? Do you remember the famous quote: Roy KOed me early because he was afraid of me ... funny but true!
