Watch for this trend to continue. People will pay big Bucks to watch megastars like Hatton and Pacquaio, but the guys that are "mid tier" for example in Vegas? Watch when Stinky gets his ass handed to him by Paul Williams, and Arreola beats Small Time McCline in Vegas, watch all the empty seats in the stands. Outside of hard core fans, nobody knows who those 4 guys are. Wright and Williams could have autograph booths set up a week going into the fight, and would draw cobwebs. Crickets chirtping in the background. Same thing with Arreola and McCline. Folks would think TNA was in town.

Stick Lee in there with Jermain Taylor in Arkansas and you have a sold out arena. On his own, he couldnt sell tickets to bunch of crickets.

Good point. The one missing piece of info from that article is: "How much were Tickets??"

You know? They might have been tryin' to get $250 or better for the worst seats in the house, when IN THIS ECONOMY they're gonna have to come in around $50 for people to get movin'.

Good point. Sounds like they weren't trying to 'fill the garden' as they had a smaller venue there. Were they relying on die hards to pay more per ticket to carry it off? I think the 'advertising' which was alluded to may have been the killer. Who knows?

Doesn't sound like a bad ticket price at all. Damned. I think you were right about the promotion/advertising side of it.

I hate to say this, but some boxing promoters are a joke. I mean, there are major fight cards announced that don't have a location a month out. It seems to be getting worse every year. I don't like the UFC or MMA anywhere near as much as boxing, but if the UFC brass ran boxing, it would be on top of the world. Sad to say.

I agree to a point, but a lot of the problem is how these fighters are marketed to the public. Err, make that aren't marketed at all. Creativity rules at this point in time in today's economy and most of these promoters aren't creative at all. The only reason I disagree is that some mid-tier fighters are drawing huge crowds. Brinkley and Gilbert put 7,000 fans in the seats in Reno. Ricardo Williams and Aaron Pryor Jr put 5,500 in the seats in Cincy a few weeks back. The key is taking boxing back to its roots. Hometown crowds, grassroots marketing, smaller, but packed venues. The Pavlik fight in Youngstown was one of the loudest, most electric crowds I've ever been a part of. The trend I think we're going to see is bye-bye Vegas, more local and regional shows. I agree, though, that the Winky-Williams fight will struggle. Williams should be a mega star. Just not enough big picture vision and creativity out there right now for some of these fighters.

OMG that was good. But seriously did they really think they could make a card like that and get it to sell at MSG?? Idiotic.

Lee's a massive draw in Limerick and a fairly big draw elsewhere in Ireland, however in America when they fail to even advertise the bloody thing.......then Lee isn't really a draw.
