Do you mean race or nationality or even ethnicity?

I mean. I see most arguments where any kind of bigotry raises its ugly head, when it is Americans against Euro's or Brits or vice versa.

Of course we can't, for one minute, suggest that American, or British, or European is a "race". So are we talking about xenophobia here?

I can safely say, I haven't seen so much as one example of racism on this board and I'm sure that if we noticed someone posting racist abuse, or anything at all racist, he would be hounded out by every single member here, if you or another mod didn't get a chance to ban him/her first.

Its a big thing. One talks ****, the other responds and talks **** too, its a viscious cycle.
Its a pride thing i guess some take it more seriously than others.
I root for a fighter for a varied number of reasons, race maybe one of them but it isnt the sole determining factor.

It does have a lot to do with boxing but still I think nationality should be more of a factor than race. But what happens when you have fighters who are of different races and nationalities than you, who do you root for? Probably the one you can identify more with, for example, I can identify more with Mexico than the Phillipines despite being neither.

I love boxing. I use to compete and I try my best to watch all the big fights. I use to watch all the up and coming fighters back when TNF was still on. I miss it. Well, I do get caught up with the Boricua fighter against any other race. I think it is just natural for people to get caught up in it. I know people who have not ever seen a fight and you tell them a Boricua is fighting and they watch and become fans. Example; I don't think India has ever had a champion, I could be wrong. If tomorrow a RJJ type fighter came out of India and started winning titles like it was candy, India would be all into boxing and support him due to being from India. Even if they weren't boxing fans, but pride of one of their own changes everything.

I'm a white boy and I love watching Mexican fighters. Put two in the ring togeather and it doesn't get much better than that.

I love watching the slick fighters like Floyd and Nard Toney and others. It's a lesson in the science.

Honestly, race doesn't have much to do with how I feel about a fighter, I think I relate more to a guy like Pavlik but it doens't mean I don't like other fighters.

I will say the international aspect is cool, I get geared up when and American fights a Euro.

Race or nationality is important to me only if the fighter is my countryman.

I dont care if he sucks or he's the p4p best in the world, I'll be rooting for him no matter what.

But generally, I'm more interested in styles than nationality or race.

I like aggressive, come forward fighters better than pure boxers, and some of my favorite fghters are from Mexico, Puerto Rico, latin america, the US, Canada and Korea.

Isn't that a catch 22? Race has nothing to do with it, but I relate to Pavlick! Yo, who is the white guy beating up the world champ? And now your a fan of a guy you don't even know, but you related to him due to being White, Black, Puerto Rican, Mexican, etc.

Not really, we come from similar backgrounds wich is why I relate to him.

It's not like I'm a fan of Hatton becuase he is white nor Pavlik for that matter. I find a guy like Litzau to be an annoying turd, they should never put a mic in that guys face again and due to his chin that probably wont happen.

I'd say my favorite fighter of all time is Eric Morales, nothing in common obviously but I love the way he fought.

I like Floyd too, he catches alot of hate but all he is doing is playing the bad guy to sell the fight, it works on you guys too.

I agree ... but I can take that to a deeper level ... with the sterotypes that comes with race in boxing.

I think the race card plays a big part in boxing ... but it shouldn't hold back good discussions.

    Great Thread !!

In terms of following a fighter, race has little to do with. Nationality can have a lot to do with it though. Put it this way, the Nigel Benn/Gerald McClellan had a nasty atmosphere, one of the most jingoistic you could come across, and it had nothing to do with race.

im irish and a will support an irish fighter over any other nationality but i also support fighters of differnet races . the exciting fighters like hatton, pac man, khan and mayweather etc but if you put an irish fighter against any one of those and i will back the irish fighter example would be hatton against magee and khan versus ***an/gomez . i think race has a lot to do with but also dosent if you no what i mean
