Me I typically root for the underdog, race usually doesn't have anything to do with my enjoyment of one fighter over the other. However when it comes to one nation fighting another or a certain nation fighting a certain nation, well I tend to favor my own! I can get bias, but with that said I have enough sense to root for my favorite fighter base on style, level of competition, and at times even personality. TS, awesome thread topic! Usually your threads tend to be kinda, bleh, but mines are too so whatever.

Is he really a moderator, or is that just the title he chose to put on?

I like fighters of all nationalities. Being half-Polish, I'm also happy to see guys like Adamek and Wlodarczyk being major players on the world scene. There just weren't many Polish fighters when I was growing up so it's a cool feeling to see them succeed. If Diablo wins in April there will be 2 Polish cruiserweight champions. I never could have pictured something like that as a kid.

you always root for black fighters don't you?

but that aside.....my #1 fav. fighter is African American (same as me), my #2 is Puerto Rican, and my #3 is Filipino, so race don't really mean **** to me to be honest

neither does nationality, i hate all humans equally, so i see past the color barriers, plus i hate the government, so i see past national barriers too

but i dont really have a problem with any1 rooting for a fighter just cuzz they're Mexican and there Mexican too, or they're Black and there Black too

but what i do have a problem with is people discrediting a fighter cuzz of his race, or overrating a fighter cuzz of his race....example would be: lots of people trying to say Pac's not the real P4P King mainly cuzz he's Asian, whether they admit it or not

but all in all, racial/national rivalires are cool most the time, like you said they're would be no Olympics without it but......don't take it overboard and start hating or downplaying another fighter cuzz of where he's from or what he looks like

Pacquiao and francis magalona represents pinoy pride, yet very down to earth and humble.

For me race doesn't come into it at all, i just love boxing, and judge the fighters on their merits and not the colour of their skin, the same as i do in life. judge people by their actions and not their skin colour and then treat them accordingly. **** me off and you get a dig no matter what colour you are, but treat me fair and i'll do the same.i'm probably going to get accused of being biased here but my brother's mixed race, and i spent a lot of time with black and asian guys in the gym growing up (where we were encouraged to treat each other as equals) and again in the army. i hate racism, its ignorant and pointless. but thats life aint it? you get arseholes in all walks of life. good thread this though mate.

race and nationality does not have anything to do with boxing. Boxing is about a fighters individual heart and his willingness to take on challenges.

My stepfather growing up was just like this. A fight would be on tv and I would ask who is winning and he would just say the black guy. In my mind, I said huh, they are both black. It sounded funny in Spanish. He had dislike for all races included his which is Puerto Rican. Race and/or Nationality plays a part in boxing. You could even be pushed into it with your friends and family. "What how can you go with the Chinese guy when we are all Omish".

A lot of people always talk this bull**** about how race has nothing to do with it. And then most those same people go out of their way to degrade a fighter who's not of their race. Like Monstar said, I don't think their anything wrong with someone rooting for a fighter of their own race, as long as you don't use race or nationality to go overboard in your hatred or critique of other fighters.

Most of my favorite fighters are black (like me) but I do like Mayorga, Margarito (despite all the **** I talk about him), and Arreolas (despite the fact that he's a useless bum-fighting blob).

The only fighter I really root against is Cotto. And it has nothing to do with his nationality or race. It's only because his fans really, really overrate him to the point that it baffles the **** out of me!
