If they fight a boxer you like they are elite. If they fight a boxer you don't like they are not elite.
personally, he has to be in the top 12 p4p during that time to be Elite. so, i won't vote in that poll.
Nothing to do with pound for pound rankings. It's about level of performance. An elite fighter's level of performance is higher than that of a world class fighter. How can you tell whether a fighter is elite? An elite fighter would give the best ever fighters at their weight a very competitive fight. To put it in a circular way, an elite level fighter performs at an "A" (elite) level regularly, not just as a one off. At one time, there might be plenty of active fighters who are elite level performers. At others, there might be only a handful. It depends.
I would take an elite fighter as being one who holds wins over the best of his peers and would fare well against/beat historically great fighters of the same division. ?
Put it this way, Usain Bolt is an elite Athlete amongst a field of highly credible world class athletes. He has been consistent enough to earn the elite athlete status. In boxing you are only elite if you beat other world class or elite fighters to be given the status of an elite fighter. Hopkins may not have won all of his last 5 but what makes him elite is his fundamentals. James Toney, Floyd Mayweather, Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Muhammad Ali were all elite at some point or another. They were above world class at some point of their career for a long time. Peace...
depends...i use elite 2 different ways, "elite p4p" and "divisional elite" example....i think Joshua Clottey's and elite fighter at welterweight, but he's not an elite fighter P4P
so if you take it in a divisional context you can have close to 100 elite fighters..the top 5 in every division. or you would go far and include the top 10 fighters in each division as elite fighters
i'd say the top 5 fighters in each division would be an elite in there division top 25 P4P would be P4P elites.... and yeah, i mean look at JMM's win over Cassamayor, i consider that a win against an Elite LW but not necessarily an elite fighter P4P...... same with Pacs win over Sasakul, he was an elite Flyweight...but it wasn't a P4P elite so yeah basically, each division has it's on elite fighters, but they're not neccesary P4P elites....which is why people like Wlad will never really be seen in the top 10 P4P lists becuzz he has no P4P elites in his division, though he can be considered beat elite HW's like Ibragimov, Peter etc....compare to other elites, these guys aren't P4P elites, that not the elite fighters of the sport, just they're division
"Elite" is used very subjective on these boards, so when you hear it dished out it has to be taken with a grain of salt. That said though I myself have not set up a criteria to what merit's being elite and what's not. Question to TS what is your criteria on an elite fighter, I usually go with my gut instinct and what I see when a fighter fights.
I kind of like how you do yours, it's simple and easy, but problem starts when the fighter from one division sucks ass and no one really looks all that great compared to other competive divisions with much more depth.
