How much do race and nationality have to do with boxing

The thread is not about the individual fighter, it has to do with the fans. Since you mentioned the fighter, it does have to do with it too. Listen to most fighters and you will hear them say I am doing this for my people or my country. Manny said it just the other day. When I use to compete, what ever works for me to win. I use to be warned all the time to keep my mouth shut due to talking trash to my opponents. I do that even playing checkers. If it gets me the win, I have done my job. Afterwards, I am the best down to earth individual there is to my opponent.

 

Bull****. Brits go out of their way to be anti-American with everything they say.

What they don't realize is that a lot of Americans don't give a **** about America. A lot of people here don't even think about "USA - USA - USA" and bulll**** like that.

If you apprach an entire nation of people already assuming everyone hates you, then what you've done is fueled the hatred yourself, because everything they say, every time they criticize someone from Europe, you'll just think it's because of their nationlity and get all defensive. So maybe the problem is you and your narrow view.

 

Damn, tell us how you really feel? I love the fight game, but there are some fighters that stick out more for me to follow. As far as Brits or Euro, I really liked Benn and Calzaghe. I like Hatton and Haye is still on my radar until he proves himself at HW. I really think a lot of posters just like to bust chops towards you guys that's all. The Euro fighters are a majority it seems right now. If you have the goods and class you will build a fanbase there and here.

if theres a black fighter, who's overrated, not that exciting, and don't fight the best people he can, and then there's a a white guy, or latino guy, asian guy, or a damn martian even who's exciting, deserves nearly all his praise, and fights respectable oposition, why should i not root for this guy over the black one, just because he's black?

i never understood that stuff.......i be like "yo come watch this Cotto fight", my brother would be like "nah, i only watch 1 fighter, and thats my fav. fighter", then i be like "ok come watch him, i bet he'll be one of yo favorite fighters from now on" then he be like..."i only have 1 fav. boxer and thats Floyd Mayweather Jr."...i be like why him? "cuzz he's young n black", how stupid does that **** sound?, like real talk, that ****'s stupid to me, and alot of humans do that ****

 

Maybe your brother didn't wanna watch the Cotto fight because he knows Cotto is an overrated, above-average hype job, and he wasn't buying it. He just told you that other bull**** to brush you off. He sounds like a smart dude to me...

but on another note and continution to the story, he stopped ****in with Floyd after he found out he was on Dancing with the Stars, so i put him up on David Haye now he's his new favorite fighter

even after he found out Floyd was a twinkleshoes he still wouldn't **** with Cotto though cuzz he wasn't black, ain't that some ****?

 

I never really ****ed with Floyd. He ain't even in my top three of favorite WW's... (Williams, Zab, Clottey). I just think the Floyd haters are delusional as hell.

And yeah, it's ridiculous not to **** with a fighter because of his race. Mayorga is still one of my favorite fighters. And I do like Margarito. He and his people were pretty cool when I met them in LA before the Williams fight. And Quintana's people are mad cool. I hung out with them after both of the PW fights, and both times they were cool about the whole ****. Based on that, I kinda want to see Quintana do well from here.

he's fast, hits hard, well schooled, exciting, has charisma, and fights the best fighters avaliable, the mans a warrior..if more fighters were like him boxing would be a better place

Nah, I always liked Zab. I defend Mayweather a lot on here, because despite what I like, some of the hatred he gets on here is purely biased bulll****. He did not duck Margarito or Shane. And he never even thought about ducking Cotto.

And yeah Quintana has a few people that travel with him to his fights. Most of them are from NY. They're all pretty laid-back and cool. Quintana himself is also pretty quiet and laidback, and seems really grateful for each one of his opportunities. After the KO1, he talked to us a long time before the presser. And after the presser, he went upstairs while we hung out with some of his crew in the casino for a little while.

Now Mora, on the other hand, was acting like he had never won a fight before. He fought Vernon on that same ticket that night, right after the KO1, and everyone grew very tired of him and his "entourage" as the night wore on.
