I'm wondering what fight can produce those kinda buys ... I don't have many in mind and I wanted to know what you guys thought. I know that Hatton v Mayweather II can produce that ... or Hatton v DLH ... Hatton seems to be the only PPV/ticket seller in the game right now ... Pacquiao is close but he can produce like Hatton ... DLH is done ... Shane can't put butts in seats for the life of him ... nor is he a PPV draw Cotto can sell tickets but i'm not sure if he can produce the buys ...
Should Pac beat Hatton and Arum goes with Cotto-Pac like he plans to do you think it would get the 1m ppv buys?
probably more fights than you think.... oscar gets so much promotion on espn and network tv with commercials, advertisements, & interviews.... if some other guys got as much coverage as oscar did they might be able to do it..... it just takes someone who is visibly pleasing or a bad guy persona a good streak of ko's & a pleasing style like if jermain taylor was all over espn with interviews & advertisements talking about he some dangerous ko artist and he was fighting.. calzaghe... it would do pretty good i bet...
At the moment its Hatton and Pac all I can think of. What sux for Pac on why he doesn't have PPV numbers in the Philippines is... 1. Not many could afford cables mostly they are tapped lines. 2. Cable is very costly with Phils. Economy right now.(well ever since anyway) 3. They show delayed telecast anyway on local channels. Around 2-3 hours delay. So not a huge problem to wait 2-3hours. 4. Around thousand of people watch Free Live Streaming on public areas like basketball courts or gymnasium by local governments. 5. Live viewing can also be found on malls for a cheaper cost and not much crowded. Which count as 1 PPV only while thousand of people watching. 6. On international PPVs. Most Filipinos just find a friend who has a huge TV and huge house, they share the amount of PPV and around dozens of them watching. 7. Most pinoys with good internet just go watch at streaming on the net.
Wasn't there a sold out house for Shane-Margo? In the range of something like 20K? Shane-Mayorga sold well as well. Buys are hard to gauge because of the economy, regional popularity of fighters and all that stuff. Also have to figure in pricing and the season...it's not really an exact science fitz. In all honesty outside of Pac and Hatton, the only fight I can think of off the top of my head is JMM-Pac 3. The last JMM-Pac fight did about 475K...It's been a while. The rivalry has continued to simmer on in boxing, both guys are P4P 1 and 2 AND their fan bases are hungr for a rematch. Add in Pac's newly found popularity as a mainstrem name and it has all the makings of coming in in the 750K range.
PAC vs JMM 3 PAC vs Floyd Hatton vs Floyd Hatton vs Pac Hatton vs Cotto DLH vs (doesn't matter) maybe Floyd vs JMM Floyd vs Cotto
There's a reason why Shane wasn't on PPV ... and hasn't been since he fought Cotto ... and that didn't do that many buys ... Mosley isn't a marketable fighter.
BTW with this economy its hard to say. I'll bet it will be lessen. 1. Less money income by the people. 2. Why waste money on PPV if you are having hard time to feed yourself. 3. Too much Streams on the net. 4. Both are just mid-household name at the US.
I don't think its the fault of the economy ... its a matter of putting the right fights together and having good undercards.
Cotto-Mosley did 375K (with an added estimated 50K in PR) which is respectable in boxing. In fact it was the 4th most purchased boxing PPV that year. Most fights don't even approach that number these days. I don't think he's an amazing sell but your statement "Shane can't put any butts in seats for the life of him" is inaccurate.
