in america nationality isn't really that big of a deal anymore. to some people im sure it is. but the vast majority of people i know anyway don't really care if the fighter is american or not just if they like the fighter, which generally has little to do with nationality.

Im English and if there was 2 fighters fighting and one was English and the other wasnt i would support the Englishman.

Having said that my favourite fighters are Marquez, Cotto and the Klits.

I'm Mexican and my favorite fighter of this generation is Hopkins, of all time, JCC since he is the reason I'm into boxing.

I tend to support my people, I was rooting for Marg against Cotto, but Cotto is still one of my favs, I even paid for the PPV a couple of weeks ago.

I try not to get caught up in the race card, if I did I would probably miss out on some great talent.

People don't want to admit it, but i think it has a whole lot to do with nationality... Me personally, alot of my favorite fighters are mexican and im not even from mexico.. But when my countrymen is fighting, i tend to get a bit more passionate even if he isn't a worldbeater... It's human nature.. I'd like to use the Romanian boxing fans as an example.. A few days ago these romanian posters started naming all their favorite fighter and they were like Leonard dorin and some other non world beaters yet these posters were labeling them as great fighters when they're clearly not that great.. So yea nationality has alot to do with it....

I'm pretty sure white Americans are the only ones not allowed to support their own race. You see, they're evil.. or something so I'm told, dummy.

I love supporting puertoricans fighters, but I also love supporting Mexican fighters, black fighters and any other race. I'll root for the puertorican fighter if I don't really know anything about either fighter. I was happy when Quintana pulled off the Joel Julio and Paul Williams upsets, but I try staying away from saying things like "Cotto is the best welterweight in the world right now". I'm not accusing anyone, my point is that just because I'm puertorican it doesn't mean I automatically think Cotto (or any PR fighter) is the best, and I don't try to bend the truth to benefit my desires.

Race shouldnt matter, but for some it seems that when they cant support there position with fact... they start with the race card or name calling against the fighter. Its bull****

Race does play a roll, anyone who says it doesn't is lying.

It's perfectly normal to root for guys who you have at least something in common with.. be it family, hometown guy, same age bracket, or same race. We want to latch on to common traits.

    All fans do this.

Man shut up. It's blatantly obvious that you don't follow boxing.
