I dont think anyone is impressed with his string of "Bum of the Month" defenses.

Odds are very slim- those losses hurt.

If he gets up there with guys like Louis and Holmes in terms of number of defenses, while beating some credible names like Haye and Povetkin, and does not have another embarrasment, then there will be guys who make the case for him. But really, we already live in an era in which no one agrees on a top five as it is, so the odds of Wladdy getting there are really not at all good.

It's pretty much impossible for him. There just isn't enough competition for him.

Byrd, Boxing Banker, Rahman, Haye, etc, etc - he needs some Bowes, Lewis's, Tysons, Alis, Foremans, etc..

It's not his fault - he's really improved, knocks people out, fights smart, is a real physical specimen.. but there just isn't anyone for him to beat up on these days. It's unfortunate, because whether or not you are a fan of Klitschko's, it would just be great for the HW division, and boxing in general, to have some big time HW championship fights.

Keep fighting, keep winning. It's that simple. He needs to keep getting in wins, beating eveyone out there. Even if the division isn't loaded with talent, he just needs to beat the people in his time.

Edit: That said, I don't ever see it happening.

The thing is, if you are going to dominate in a weak era, you at least have to do it in a highly impressive fashion. Mike Tyson's reign in the 80's is a perfect example of this. He was a wrecking machine. It didn't matter that some of his competition was poor....he didn't labour to decisions or take 8 or 9 round to jab them to death without throwing a right hand. He tore through the competition.

If Wlad were to get top 5 ATG, he would not have 3 losses that extremely embarassing in nature, to poor/average fighters, whilst he was green/prime.

For example, he should have taken risks against Igbragimov, and destroyed him, stamped his dominance on the division to the world (unification remember?). Or maybe he should have blown an old, out of shape Rahman out within a few rounds. Perhaps he should have put in a performance against the non-threat that was Tony Thompson that showed the gulf in class.

But he didn't. He will never be a top 5 heavyweight ATG.
