Are his positive attributes enough to bring him to the top in this division? Namely his heart, chin, relentlessness... His defense is pretty non-existent but his chin seems good enough to bail him out of trouble for the time being. Can he beat Santos, Dzindziruk, Williams?
Yeah I think that Kirkland would beat Santos, Dzindziruk, and forrest...Not sure about Williams and Martinez.
Yeah, he's definitely good for the sport. And, he doesn't seem to like to clinch, which is a great thing if you're a fight fan. Julio seemed to be the one who was trying to clinch tonight. Kirkland is def. gonna be in some more exciting fights.
Exciting to watch. But nothing impressive tonight. Julio wasn't sitting on his punches, off balance and didn't throw one combination, but still managed to land at will.
Dzindziruk is a ****in mystery man. I still haven't seen his most recent fight with Julio. I would love to see Kirkland vs. Santos.
You think he could beat dzindziruk but not martinez? Boy, you don't watch boxing on an international level so you shouldn't comment. Sergei is the best at 154 outside of williams.
You at least have to be impressed with Kirkland's tenacity. Sure, his defense is porous but he is young, and he does have some other really good attributes. I'd rather watch him fight than a lot of other guys, that's for sure.
Didn't impress me tonight really. Strong young guy, but lacks just about everything else that a fighter needs to strive. No defense, and doesn't go to the body enough. The best at 154 would eat him alive right now. A showdown with Angulo would be the best thing for him right now.
IDK he is a work in progress, if he can create a good defense than he will be tough to beat, I think he takes out Angulo, but thats not saying much, I'd love for him to fight Mayorga.
I actually think a fight with Angulo would be very competitive and a toss up. If Julio landed those rights at will, then he is in for a long night with Angulo. I see Angulos sharp/short little right landing all night. Put it this way, if Angulo can take his punches then is going to be a real war that could go either way. Neither one will back down.
Tonight was a pretty damn good showing, though. Joel isn't fodder of the 154lb. division. He went 12 rounds with Dzindziruk, Quintana, and has proven he is a top-10 guy in the div. IMO. Kirkland essentially made him quit. I wanted Joel to win tonight, but I think he was really discouraged by the fact that his punches weren't having the effect he thought they'd have and also the fact that Kirkland was pressuring him every second.
