Plus: Excellent workrate, good power, relentless style, solid chin & an all around exciting fighter to watch. Minus: Defense needs work & he should work on setting up his power shots rather than swinging his way in. I'm a big fan after last night's fight.
I picked Julio because of the 2nd part of my reasoning, and changed it to Kirkland because I felt the first part would make the difference. Julio never became a physically strong LMW, and he showed a poor fight moving backwards all the time, taking out his own power of his game. It is a VERY solid win for Kirkland, especially with the TKO in his record, but they brought him a puncher for a reason. I don't know if you are James's cousin or neighbour or something, but you should see his flaws or you'll be shocked and have hard time to understand what happened when somebody, on the elite level, not below, puts a boxing lesson on him. Let me put it this way: Dzinziruk and Quintana couldn't stop Julio and never came close to it, but I think they took less clean blows in 12 rounds than Kirkland in 6.
You dissapoint me JR. You predicted that Kirland would get stomped and just the opposite happened. Despite this, you still **** on him. Open your eyes. Kirkland has good speed. His punches are straight and hard. He works the body, he varies his punches, and showed the ability to slipnand block punches. You talk about his defense but Julio wasn't landing clean combos. He was only landing one punch at a time. Kirkland has heart, determination, will, power, and a chin. At the end of the day, it's a fight. Those are the attributes you need in a fight. Give Kirkland his props. He just dominated a guy you said would dominate him. That has to count for something in your book.
Kirkland took only a handful of actual clean blows. The rest were arm punches or punches that he rolled. Margo is not as talented as Kirkland, eats many more clean blows and yet still won 3 titles. He also beat down Cotto. So I don't want to hear this garbage about him being so easy to outbox.
Man you'e dellusional. You speak about this kid as if he's got all the tools of a prime "Sugar" Ray Robinson. I don't see any outstandiung handspeed from the kid, his defense IS ****, and he hardly went to the body at all in the last few fights I've seen him in, including last night. But yeah, yeah, yeah, go ahead and talk this limited, crude young fighter up. I've seen it all before where a young guy with an exciting style gets talked up only to be badly exposed as he moves up the ranks. Just another Miranda in the making... and I gotta tell you my man, I've read the way you break down fighters and their abilities and I'm under the assumption that you've never even trained at a gym a day in your lfie because you don't seem to have a real grasp of technique at all.
Watching the fight last night, I couldn't help but realize how Laila Ali was lucky she never faced Anne Wolfe in the ring. Too bad, I would have loved to see that ***** get KTFO back to her daddy's lap.
I'm sorry J.R, but you seem to be clueless on this subject. I never said Kirkland was a future ATG. What I did say is that he would wear down and stop Julio. Meanwhile, you said that you would be surprised if Kirkland didn't get KO'd. Even worse, you now say you're dissapointed in Kirkland's performance. Now you have the nerve to call me delusional. Delusional is when you refuse to accept reality. That's what you're with Kirkland. Do you realize how stupid you sound when you predict a guy to get dominated and then try to **** on his performance when that same fighter dominates his opponent?
Clueless is what the lot of you are who talk this guy up as if he's somekind of future world beater. Not surprisingly the guys who are doing this are posters who have obviously had no formal training at all, like yourself, and only see the talent, but not the obvious technnical flaws that this kid has..... and I don't sound stupid because I'm downing his performance, the guy simply doesn't impress me. What the hell is wrong with me saying that? He got hit like hell and showed about a million mistakes even in a win. What was there to impress me? That you can look that bad and still win... is what's suppossed to impress me about Kirkland?
J.R, if you have all this training and insight, how come you were completely wrong about this fight? You ask why you should be impressed by Kirkland. How about the fact that he performed a lot better than you said he would. You said he wasn't good enough to beat Julio. Not only was he good enough to beat Julio but he was good enough to dominate him. You talk about Kirklands mistakes, but there are a ton of championship level fighters that make a lot of mistakes.
Williams beats everyone at 154. Kirkland would have problems with Sergi, Santos and Spinks. Everyone else in the top 10 I would favor him against.
atsch Williams has improved since then. He would KO Carlos again if a 3rd fight is signed. The only guy I see giving Williams trouble at 154 is Spinks due to his style.
dude you cant tell some of these guys anything...Kirkland picked off a ton of shot with his gloves, and he is hardly some stiff slow walk foward wide swinging slow handed slug that some of these clowns are making him out to be.
And he still distroyed a guy that gave one of the title holders a helluva fight in his fight before...So yeah I can see howhe is a bum, with no skills and makes a mistake a second in the ring....No what your doing is called HATE. I would bet money that you picked Julio to win...Didnt you:hey
This forum amazes me. They seem to constantly deride fighters who are not your protitypical, out-fighting, setup your offense with the jab, boxers. Then, when a guy like that comes around, he's derided fro "running" or for not slugging it out enough. Kirkland is a pressure fighter. Pressure fighters are going to get hit more than an out fighter. That just goes along with the territory. For a pressure fighter, Kirkland has shown flashes of good defensive abilities. In the future, he just needs to move his head on a consistent basis, and he needs to use jab more.
Nah its more to it then that...Margo is a no-skilled fighter that got a ton of credit....and from some of the guys that are now making a big deal about Kirkland not being Floyd Mayweather..The kid is exciting...Is he flawless...of course not, but he is young and still finding himself as a fighter.
