With a good training routine, lots of cardio and weights...

....how long is realistic to be getting a six pack?

Am starting off from a slim base, no real excess fat. So how long?

You can't put a time on it, there are far too many variables to take into account. You don't make any mention of what routine you follow, your diet, anything. Doing lots of cardio and weights could mean anything?

Some people say there are no stupid questions but I think you proved them wrong :!:

A six pack is no indication of a good condition, if your fat percentage is low enough, you should be seeing one already.

This is actually a common myth. If a person doesn't have to sufficient abdominal musculature, no matter how low the bf they won't see a six pack. You are correct in saying that a six pack is a poor indicator of physical fitness though.

Well it won't be much of a six pack, but you'll see the abdominal muscle I think. When I was a chain smoking alcoholic I had a visible six pack as well, not because I was strong but because I was a skinny ****.

It's like asking when will I have biceps, they're already there.

I would have to strongly disagree that it's a myth. I normally walked around 165-168 (fought 165) and was 9ish% body fat. I've always been able to do abs all day long, any core exercise, no problem, and still didnt really have a cut stomach. Then my trainer had me drop down to fight at 155, and Im currently walking around 153-155, 6% body fat and my abs have never looked better. Like RDJ said your abs showing doesnt necessarily mean you do a ton of abs and do certain excercises, its just you body fat percentage. Bodi said that a low bmi doesnt mean anything and that you may just not have sufficient abdominal musculature, I think thats only the case if you're just coming out of Aushwitz (spelling). If you are lean/skinny and have proper nutrition and exercise, you should show some core definition

I have to respectfully disagree regarding the six pack. I see your reasoning, but the fact is that some people are genetically predisposed to 'not' have a six pack. All of the dieting and training in the world will not help these people. Yes, these people are in a minority, but it does happen, believe me, I have seen it in several cases.
