Sugar Ray Robinson vs. Sugar Ray Leonard, at 147

I don't think this ever been done before but who do you guys think would win this fight. I think this would be an incredible boxing match right here. Who would you guys pick in this fight?

 

Very close, competitive match, with Robinson taking the edge in the exchanges and the fight. Robinson 9-6 over 15 extraordinary rounds.

Honesty, how can you seperate these guys? Both are almost complete.

 

I think Robinson, from what I have seen had a slightly better jab, and that would be key to winning a close UD.

 

Possibly the greatest fight of all-time, I will go with SRR in a competitive UD.

 

Better than Armstrong v Duran? Not too sure it would be quite as good in terms of punch volume and sheer crazyness.

 

From a pure skill and competitive stand point this fight would be something to behold.

 

I agree, I believe Robinson would take it in a close fights, but where the winner is obvious.

 

I have a hard time picking in this as well. This is a toss up right here.

 

A match between between the two greatest welters in history is very difficult to judge. Leonard is faster and more mobile, Robinson is stronger and harder hitting (as well well being fast). Both were great all around and were good defensively (though not exceptional in that department).

I think that leonard assumes the role of the the boxer being the faster fighter, and robinson being the agressor. Leonard takes most of the early rounds rounds, robinson the middle rounds. After 12 rounds it's about even, however robinsons harder punches are taking their toll and leonards running out of gas. Robinson takes the last 2 rounds, having leonard in serious trouble in the last round and on the verge of a stoppage in the 15th.

I think Robinson would overpower him, perhaps somewhat similar to the way Leonard overpowered Benitez.

Leonard faster? How do you know considering only flickering highlights exist of Robinson at his best weight?.

Sports Illustrated clocked Ali's speed quicker than Robinson's, but this was obviously footage of Robinson as a middleweight. He would have been significantly quicker at welterweight. Watch Robinson finish off a helpless Turpin against the ropes during their rematch. Pretty quick, although not blazing. The WW Robinson would have been on par with Leonard or perhaps a shade quicker.

Both have a tremendous set of skills, but Robinson, being the harder puncher, would gradually wear Leonard down. Leonard was loaded with talent and would give a spirited fight, but Rob was KING. Thus, Rob by late TKO.
