Ali v Young

Bad call, Chris. That was a total mismatch, but it is also a very fun fight to watch.

 

No, Young didn't stink in the Ali fight. He made Ali miss, then countered with good shots that landed. Also, people said Young couldn't punch. He had a lot greater punch than people give him credit for. He broke Ali's eardrum as well as some other damage, I forget what excactly, had Norten hurt a few times, and hit hard enough to keep Lyle, Ali, Shvers , Cooney, Norton, Page and many others from walking through him. How macho was Ali excactly dancing away like a scoolgirl from dangerouse foes? Not to mention dancing away from being drafted.

Some one must have got to the judges AND the referee then because all of them voted for ALI .
The difference between the Young fight and the Norton 3 fight for Ali was the 9 lbs of lard he lost.

ALL three of the judges for the ODH v Sturm fight voted indentically 113-115 for ODH.

Which suggests an honest call to me ,no widely dissenting votes there.Whether you think Sturm deserved the win or not is academic,,just because you did not agree with the result doesnt mean there was a corruption conspiracy.

 

How ****in' dare Ali be in a few boring fights during his past-prime too shot years. How...dare...he!

 

While this is true, I think Ali should have at least one more loss in these three fights.

 

Ali should have went to the body then. If he did, Young would NEVER stick his head outside the ropes, as he would be pined in a bad area.

 

Would not have affected his legacy at all. The way the classic forum talks, you would have thought he lost them all.

 

True but it would have been nice if some of the judges had taken the time out to actually watch some of those fights.

 

And when did Ali go to the body?

 

Hurt him to the body if you pay close attention as well. Suprising how light hitters like Young and Byrd can hurt fights like Tua and Ali with sneaky bodyshots.

I like how Young supposedly did nothing and yet Ali still left the ring with a busted ****ing eardrum.

 

How many punches would it take to bust an eardrum?

 

Well, briefly against Ellis, against Bugner in their second fight, and a few times in the 1960s. He did it extremely rarely, but it's not like he had a joint condition that prevented him from throwing punches below a certain level.

 

Just reminding Mendoza that Ali was essentially a HEAD HUNTER.

 

While a loss to Young at that stage probably wouldn't have hurt Ali's legacy badly, a loss to D. Jones in 1963 would be another thing completely. How do you guys see Ali's career playing out if the judges had given Jones the victory? (I'm not saying he deserved it, but worse robberies have happened) Would things potentially be a lot different?

Or what if Norton got the nod in the rematch?
