For me, had Ike stayed out of trouble, there's little doubt he would've dethroned Lennox, ate the Klits for lunch and broken Huggy Bear Ruiz into nanoparticles. Set the record for the most punches in a HW fight at the time by UD'ing a then-prime, seemingly unstoppabe 27-0 David Tua. Allmost sent Chris Byrd's head into the nosebleeds. Excellent skills, tight defense, wicked uppercuts, and a CHIN OF ****ING GRANITE.

Where do you guys weight in on him?

I love Ike. People **** on him, but the man was skilled w/serious punch output.

No one can deny he would've been GREAT for the sport if he wasn't mental...

Lennox beat the same Tua that Ike went life and death with. Many had the fight a draw. I do not see Ike beating a skilled big man like Lennox.

He would have beat Wlad but he would have been dealing with a different animal in fighting Vitali Klitschko.

The guy only had 19 fights. We don't know what would have happened. Tua never even won an alphabet belt for christ sakes.

Lennox Lewis would have beaten him. A lot of people had Tua winning their fight. And if you listen well around the 5th round Ike's coach says "Don't quit now Ike" or something like that, I think it tells us his habits and mental state. Byrd was also doing well before getting knocked out. He was a good prospect with very good workrate, chin and power, but I would bet my house that Lennox Lewis beats him convincingly.

It's so simple to be wise. Just think of something stupid to say and say the opposite.

Define "Life and death". Ike was nowhere near hurt in that fight, and they traded BOMBS for 12 rounds. Sure lennox fought Tua -- over THREE AND A HALF YEARS LATER, when he had ballooned to the size of a beached whale and was poorly prepared. And lewis still had to take UD.

While you were in the early stages of creating that scintillating masterpiece, I was watching fights like abovementioned. But hey, at least you got to use it, regardless of how poory contextualized it is.

Ike was would have definately picked up a title and had many attributes that made him potentially the biggest threat to Lewis and later on the Klits. He had a good workrate, iron cast chin, power, explosive combinations and a heavy jab.

While he did look great against the opponents he did meet he never stepped in with a super heavyweight. How would he have done against a 6 foot 5 inch plus heavy with power who would try to outbox him from range and tie him up in close. It's hard to say.

I think he would have ground down Wlad but Lewis or Vitali may have been tough enough and smart enough to get the decision over 12 rounds.

Tua was a midget who NEVER even was able to win an alphabet belt. that is not a fighter I would use to judge someones greatness on.

Ike obviously had some mental problems. What happens when he faces extreme adversity from a fight the same size or bigger than him?

Ike looked promising but what we know is Lennox was a great fighter and Ike was a never was who is in prison.

Many people thought Sam Peter was the new Ike. Well, look how that turned out.

No ****, captain obvious, hence why the thread say "would've." That's the whole point -- Ike's mental instability prevented him from attaining the crown of the sport, in much the same way your mental instability prevents you from making a thread about anything other than Glass Jaws.

    "poory" ?

audacious though ones witty retort was,i must decline a proverbial "slanging match",im doing brunch..

it would reflect on one's self far brighter if one would reply to my post with a pinch of salt ,the phrase "when in rome" may suffice as my reply..

the boot fits the mouth it was intended for,now stop shouting sweetie.

Thats bollox to hold the alphabet title claim against him, absolute bollox!!The fact he had alot of personal problems contributed to the fact he never even got a shot at an alphabet title! Not like he tried and failed......

Ike had the skills to be a heavyweight king, but he was severely missing the mental side!

Well, that is because Lennox took this fight as safety first. He knows Tua is a dangerous fighter so he jab and paw to a decision. It was one of his ugliest and boring fights. Ike took it to Tua and entertained the fans with a real fight. I guess he could of done the same, but took a different route. It was a close fight, but like I said, Ike could have jabbed and boxed to a decision with his height and reach. Maybe, Lennox did not want a Automic bull or Rahman ending.

I heard he wanted to quit with Byrd and Tua. He had to have strong and tuff trainers to succeed, but now thinking a little more. I believe a pressure of a big time fight with Lennox could have Ike melt down like the Automic Bull or Golota with Tyson. I could be wrong and it is a short night for Lennox. Lennox did not have Steward back then I believe so anything could happen in the first three to four rounds. Peter is no Ike. Tua would have put him to sleep then and now.
