I listen to Alan Brazil every morning, enjoy Bowtime on the journey home. I get loads on football (as expected), Cricket, Horse racing etc, but very little on boxing. We hear about a big fight, a view interviews then back to to other sports. I accept we are not mainstream and having a massive chunk of their schedule, but what about a fight phone in for a couple of hours each week. Perhaps in an evening when there is no football, or a show when the would be regular football updates during the fight talk.
If there was demand for it they would do it. Unfortunately boxing just isn't very popular anymore and people would prefer to hear the same hackneyed soundbites about the Premier League repeated over and over again.
Fishing is far more popular than boxing. Brazil is really into gettig pissed and being a twat so talks more about horses than anything else. Irani is a **** who talks about another **** minority sport.
I've heard Junior Witter interviewed on their show a few times. In general though boxing is not a priority for most media mediums. On the day that Cotto fought Jennings in a world title fight at MSG, the Daily Mail didn't consider it worthy of a mention in six pages of sports news including snooker, darts and horse racing. Hatton and Calzaghe aside the media don't want to know.
I've offered the top man at TalkSport a weekly boxing show - I told him about the reaction to the Bunce Hour on Setanta but he was not moved - I'm stunned. We get more emails/texts for the Bunce Hour than any hour on TalkSport gets in calls - can you imagine if you mob could call the show!! I think TalkSport is a bit too upmarket for boxing...yeah, right! Adios.
I do enjoy listening to the odd Talksport show. Wrighty is a legend and Collymore is a genuine bloke plus he got knicked for dogging where I park my car which is nice. No doubt if the station started a weekly boxing show I would tune in and I think they would get a good response. It would certainly need a guy like Bunce to host the show and not some no name from the sales department. I would even call in....:hey:hey:hey:-(
Remember a while back a guy on here stated a boxing channel petition. good idea but i think getting a weekly radio show on talksport or 5 live would be more realistic. at the moment we have the bunce hour, and the monthly 5live show. would be great if we could have one of those going for 2 hours each week, then they could afford to have 45mins to an hour of fan phone ins along with the pundits discussing the event. when is the next 5live boxing buncey?
Torn between whether its a good thing or bad thing to be honest. On one hand, I'd love to be able to listen to a boxing show. On the other, do you want to hear the station that gave us Durham, Parry, Brazil, Irani talk about our sport? Total fuds, one and all.
Send them this link then Steve !! If you could get a 1 hour pilot show we wouldn't let you down, you know that :good
Don't listen to Talk Sport since they got rid of James Whale and John Gaunt. And their constant jingles **** me off.
Why don't you have a phone-in as well as e-mails as a filler when you are covering live shows? The German show this week most of us are only interested in the Abraham world title fight, and Brewster v Sprott. A phone-in would be an excellent way of filling the studio time
