How does everyone see Gavilan matching up against Leonard, Hearns, Cuevas and the late 70's WW's?

 

Beats Cuevas but loses to Hearns/Leonard, maybe he'd have too much movement for Duran though

 

I might actually agree with you for once PowerPuncher, except I think Duran would win a close, ardous UD in an amazing battle. Gavilan could stand in close and trade as well, and I think both guys would mix up their styles for an intriguing fight.

I think if Gavilan's iron chin can deal with Hearns power he might get to him and stop him late. Some people regard Gavilan as feather-fisted but in modern times he'd stop a lot more fighters. I've seen fights where he wins on PTS where he has the guy out on his feet against the ropes, no way they'd let Hearns continue in that state.

Leonard wins on PTS in a more lopsided fashion probably. But Gavilan would give him problems at points.

that's a keen observation Ace, something the other posters overlooked for some reason. In terms of competitiveness, we're going to see another Norris-Leonard beatdown. Leonard will play it tough the first three rounds but the moment he gets his chin tested, he'll lay down for Robbi in the manner he did for Terry.

 

Did the contract for the first read Leonard must fight by Duran's rules?

 

My theory here is two-fold...If SRR deploys his awsome left jab consistently,SRL is in trouble...much like he was against Hearns..Hearns was much taller....SRR had very fast hands to go with that jab...SRL's hands were perhaps a mite faster on combos than SRR..

Add the fact that SRR IMO,took the harder shot...and had the harder shot too.

Final analysis:SRR,on top of the physical gifts he had,could unleash a total onslaught when he could..much more offensive-minded....and so...

SRR UD 15(more like 9-6).

 

Considering this is a close one, and the only man that most think would have a chance against RObinson, no1 in 3 pages has actually taken Leonard yet!

No. However had there been a rubber match then Leonard would have proven that he was the man and would've won the series. :good

 

Leonard can beat Robbo. Would be the toughest fight of his life, though.

 

I dont know if he can. Obviously there are plenty of stipulative intangibles one can bring into the equation and debate. But if the playing field is all even and both men are at there very best, i dont know if he can. Not saying he cant, but its safe to say im certainly more sceptical than you are here.

 

Great fight, Robinson would best be served moving around and popping in the jab. & countering with his powerful left hook, while exchanging from the outside. But the inside exchanges would belong to Leonard, Who is very fast & powerful on the inside. IMO Robinson would be able to move around & outbox Leonard. In much the same way Hearns almost did. But there would be no knockout of Robinson in the late rounds.

 

One of the best lightweights of all-time. And also one of the best welterweights H2H in history. It's not as if he dwarfed Duran. A great win for my man nonetheless.

 

io think SRR is better than SRL i cant see one thing SRL does better.

i think SRR on pts over 15 in a competitve close but clear fight
