Brewster didn't get ko'ed. He quit on his stool after tasting nothing but continuous jabs for six rounds. Watch the fight. Wlad played it extremely safe with a shot Brewster -- this is why he is getting dissed. He should have looked to destroy him in less than 4 rounds in order to truly make a statement. LL wrote the book on how to avenge a loss, but then again he is an ATG. Wlad can be, but he's got a ways to go.
I respect every fighter that gets in the ring and risks his life for my viewing pleasure, that and a huge paycheck if your Wlad Klitschko.:yep As one of Wlad's biggest haters on ESB, the only thing that would make me eat my words and change my mind, would be for Wlad to fight a Haye or Peter type puncher, and go to war with them without being dropped several times and looking less then tough. I want to see him take a "Hayemaker" and motion to David with his glove "Bring it on", thats the type of Heavyweight champ I cheer for and love. Thats why Brewster was my favorite Heavyweight before Peter came around, he wasn't that talented of a boxer, but damn did that man have heart, as well as some power in his hooks.
So its all Iggy's fault that Wlad didn't impose his will? So it's all Iggy's fault for not playing right into Wlad's hands by walking forward into jabs all night? Wlad had a HUGE size advantage -- he should not have been so damn scared to take one or two in order to hurt Iggy. This is why he got booed and labeled.
Chris Byrd was the longest standing Champion in the division. He also was the #1 ranked Heavyweight by Ring Magazine... Wlad just demolished him. That only qualifies as a "decent win"? That's what I am talking about, the standards are unreasonable for him. When fighters from the past would knock out ANYONE people would go crazy, especially if it was the Champion and #1 ranked fighter... or undefeated top contenders like Brock. Hell, the most comparable heavyweight in history to Chris Byrd is Jimmy Young. Difference being that Byrd actually had more power! Jimmy Young beat Foreman and even dropped him. Where is the list of great fighters that Joe Frazier knocked out? Where is the list of great fighters that Mike Tyson knocked out? (please don't include Larry Holmes)
Uhh... Wald DID impose his will. He ****in' dominated the fight. Imposing your will doesn't mean fighting like a drunken sailor. Also... Iggy DID play right into Wlad's hands.atsch Who won the fight in easy fashion for ****'s sake? You are all backwards on this one man. It is Iggy's fault that he refused to open up, make a fight out of it and actually go for the win himself. Wlad didn't have to do jack ****, he was already winning easily. Wlad's height doesn't have a damn thing to do with him being willing to just take shots that he doesn't need to take. The only sort of boxers who eat shots to give them are the kind that have to do that.
I agree. Floyd did what he had to do, and I never bashed him for it. Every fight can't be a sizzling slugfest or brutal knockout.
:good:good But i believe it is a waste of time to explain to people who just wants to talk **** of a great person and Champion!
Thus far respect would go up in general, although most admit that losing would hurt. About what I expected, we'll see what happens tonight when more people are around.
McCline was in top 5 ranking. Botha was befor Emanuel. Thompson is long southpaw so it's hard to look great against him. Brewster was taking punishment in rematch. Also there was Ray Mercer - wlad first who stoped him. There was a win over Ray Ostin(who is not so bad as many says) with only one hand there was allot of prospect's and contenders. Ibragimov(who was a champion).
Thompson is not any good, the only reason he hadn't lost in 6 or so years was because he was fighting nobodies, his greatest win to date is over Luan Krasniqi, whose best for known for being a knockout victim of Brewster's back in late 05. Brewster was 15 months inactive coming into that, and his eye was not medically cleared to fight that night. Austin is best known for his draw against Iggy a year before that fight, other than he's done nothing great up to that point. Iggy was a pretty decent win, though Iggy's best wins were over washed up Holyfield and asthmatic Briggs, neither of which he was able to knockout or really hurt. McCline was a ok win, but his stock risen a little too much after knocked out Grant a fight or two before his match with Wlad.
Which is exactly why I wouldn't consider someone like you a true boxing fan. I watch Klitschko fights around MANY, MANY people... hardcore fans, and even casual fans and NONE of them ever have anything to say about him in a negative manner. Especially anything about him being boring. He usually has everyone giving a big "OHHHHHH" when he lands his shots... and then everyone is happy at the end of his fights as 9 out of 10 end before the distance. I never even heard people complaining about the Ibragimov fight when I was out around people who are watching it. It's just a big internet fad to pretend like a man who has an equal KO ratio to George Foreman is "boring".
The only fair criticism I can make in terms of Wlad being "boring" is that he let's fighters stay in the ring longer than they need to be. Wlad has the skill and the power to dispatch of these chumps early, but he takes the overly cautious route and lets matches drag for far too long. Guys like Thompson and "old man Rahman" should have been disposed of quickly like he did with Ray Austin. There was absolutley no excuse for the Ibragamov fight going the distance either. Even Emmanuel Steward told Wlad in the corner that he should finnish him off. In the end, winning is more important that putting on a pretty show, and Wlad has been very effective at winning. He also is very good at knocking people out. Most opponents do NOT make it through the distance with Wlad.
