If Mikkel Kessler was handled by Americans, would he be any more popular?

basically any fighter, who is at the top of their division, would be more mainstream if he was being promoted by an american.

He is very popular in Europe, and being handled by Americans would not change that. It may help his popularity in the US IF HE FIGHTS there. But, he needs to fight there. It seems as though he is partially retired at this point.

He'd be pretty big in the states I think. If he's gotta do 4 defenses then just fight every month and get out of the bad contract. He'd destroy whoever he does voluntary defenses against then move to the US. The only threat to Kessler at SMW is Jermaine. One of the two will be king of SMW for a good while if they want. Maybe since Abraham is going to jump to SMW soon he could fight him. Lots of fights I'd love to see Kessler in.

I was merely pointing out that Kessler is an exciting and skilled fighter, and I believe he'd be quite a draw in America if he were to get regular exposure in the country.

    Now please **** off. :D

  6. More popular in America?

He'd be more popular in America if he was successful over here.

The question is would he be successful if he had legit fights every time out rather than just occasionally?

Depending on who is commenting you will certainly get different predictions or prognostications.

It isn't much different than JC's situation. He got a narrow win over a non-peak Eubank (who also avoided the US with exception of the very beginning of his career) in 1997. Then he fought again in 2006-2008. His fans or compatriots are convinced he would have done great in big fights against great fighters between '97 - '05. His detractors might believe that if he had really been thrown into the fire with repeated tough fights (like Eubank-level and better) he would have inevitably cracked, shown his true level, and been retired and a footnote by 2006.

Hopefully, Kessler will be in series of substantive bouts before it becomes a case of "yeah, but a PRIME Kessler would have kicked so-and-so's ass, I'm sure of it". And, he won't get any credit if he gets a split-decision over a 43-year old Roy Jones at LHW in 2012 or a majority-decision over a 49-year old Bernard Hopkins in 2014.

Kessler would have fought a higher level of comp were he an american. I think that Kessler is about as popular has he can be, I dont think that he has superstar in him. I dont think that he could have been a PPV top guy. He would be more like a Winky Wright type guy...Very good, a couple of loses, and not really a guy to fight if your looking to get a big payday.

Don't see any reason to believe that to be true.

Kessler's shown a willingness to get out and about (fought in Germany, Australia, UK, US) that is not a common trait in young American fighters these days.

People saying he has fought poor opposition only have his last two fights to point at, before that he had fought a P4P fighter and number one in his division in Calzaghe plus Mundine and Andrade who are both in The Ring top five at the weight.

Kessler's last two title fights aren't amazing, but they were against noticeably stronger opposition than Kelly Pavlik's last two title fights, for example. Pavlik also shows no signs of leaving his own country to chase fights against the best at his weight, as Kessler has done. Can we imagine Pavlik going to Germany to fight Abraham or Sturm? Not likely.

It's quite probable that, if Kessler had been American based, fighting in the same division at the same time he may well have fought a lower level of competition and very probably would have stayed at home more - if he were to fight the same standard of people, they would have had to come to him.

As I see Palle, his single interest is running a "safe" business, a business he can sustain forever, should he not die, and I'm seriously beginning to think he'll never die. Unfortunately Palle sticks with an employment regulation that goes back to the times of slave trade. No wonder Kessler himself no longer speaks with Palle. Kessler knows (better late than never) that he is better off letting his lawyers deal with Palle. Somehow Palle has got the wrong impression of his own impact on a boxer like Kessler's career. Palle seems to always think he builds boxers careers and forgets he ruins some too. That's why I would like Palle to know he needs to let Kessler go at a fair price. Kessler should probably try to pay his way out of his deal with Team Palle and move to The States for a couple of years or more.:deal

I disagree, and I think a lot of his fans would too. Calzaghe was in no way ready for big fights in the late 90's. I think between 2001 and 2005 though, would have been his 'prime' where he could have given any top fighters all they could handle, and quite possibly beat them.

However, at that time there was a mixture of Warren being overprotective, Calzaghe's personal life apparantly took a turn for the worse and Calzaghe not breaking with Warren/WBO, that was a large part of the reason the big fights didn't happen.

I'm interested to know, what is the Danish media and Danish sport commentators saying about the situation? Are there any articles in the national newpapers/TV that are outspoken in their criticism of Palle?

    Oh yes . . . definitely . . . U.S. is where the mainstream boxing is.

The big NETWORKS, the REPORTERS and printed circulations and most of all the big money fights are all here.

Do you have a single clue about whats going on between Kessler and his promotor?.. really dont think so! Kessler wants big fights right now, but Palle keeps offer him **** fights! Kessler doesn`t want anymore low level oponents.. thats why they are taking it to court now, so he can get out of his contract, and move on!
You keep giving Kessler ****! no reason to, he is doing all he can do!.. but maybe you just dont like the guy!
