It was still a knockdown none the less. I still say Briggs was the only one to truly put Mercer away. If only Brigg's had stamina, he would be one tough fighter to beat.
I voted that I just like him to win even if it's boring, but I don't find him boring to begin with. He's a careful fighter, that's fine.
Widdow, you are normally a very sensible poster imo. But you sir, need to read my post again. Wladimir dominated the first few rounds of the fight by slapping Iggy's gloves. Stop making bull**** excuses and twisting my words around. Wlad should have pressed for the KO. :bbb Iggy was much smaller and had nothing for him to worry about, yet he gave him so much respect because he wasn't willing to get hit. When your trainer is telling you that a guy shouldn't make it 12 rounds with you, then you need to step it up. Wladimir was afraid to exchange with Iggy in any manner whatsoever. That is why he's called boring by so many people. The Brock fight is where he showed that he can press for the KO and get it. That was one of his best and most memorable KOs. I noticed that just because I tell it like it is about Wlad, that I am considered a hater. A nuthugger would see it that way, so I feel privileged. If I was a hater, then I wouldn't like Vitali so much.
I feel the same. Pre Manny Wlad was an amazing and fearless war machine. Now he is a mix of Lennox Lewis and John Ruiz.
I didn't call you a hater in that post... .first of all. Second, it seems to me that you are simply underestimating Sultan Ibragimov. If you would have watched his previous fights you would know that he DOES in fact have something that his opponents need to worry about. He sets that trap and normally fighters fall right into it. You obviously weren't reading the fight as well as Wlad, myself, and many others were able to. Sultan was setting that trap leaning back down and away, hoping that Wlad would overextend and get off balance to land something big... at which point Sultan rips off NASTY counters. He wasn't the undefeated WBO champ for nothing. Ibragimov if he continues to fight would have a great chance to beat everyone else in the division except the Klitschkos. Steward said after the fight that he agreed with Wlad and the way that he fought the fight. The guy was simply keeping Wlad on his toes and prepared to take Sultan out whenever Iggy decided to open up.... which outside of a brief moment to end the 11th round never really happened. It is really easy to be lulled into complacency during a fight like that. Also, at the end of the day it is Wlad in there fight Iggy and he can get a feel and a look that none of us can get. Blame Ibragimov, not Wlad. This is boxing, not street fighting. Not every boxing match is going to be a glorious, shocking knockout performance. EVERY fighter has a bad stylistic match-up that turns out boring, slow, or ugly once in a while. I can sit here and pick out fights from every top fighter in history and trash on them for their boring fight. Wlad wasn't "afraid" to engage with Ibragimov. IGGY WASN'T ENGAGING! You are mistaking that with Wlad isn't going to start fighting like Sam Peter and just try to club Iggy like an amateur just because Iggy won't come out of his defensive shell. All of the work in that fight came from Wlad... so how can he be blamed and not Iggy? Watch the end of the 11th round and see what would have happened IF Iggy had decided to actually fight back and go for the win. It will also show you that Wlad was NOT afraid to engage. He just wasn't willing to fight stupid. Just as Lennox Lewis did against David Tua and plenty of other fights.
ala John Ruiz style... I guess it isn't bad as long as u get the W, then again, it's not too exciting.
Wald fights absolutely nothing like John Ruiz. You really have to have a poor understanding of this sport to think that.
