1. Chris Eubank - was 32 past his best had already been beaten soundly and too the Calzaghe fight on 2 weeks notice when originally scheduled to face Mark prince for euro Light heavy title - deceptive win for Joe byt excellent name. (former)

2. Brank Sabot- average fighter....WBO title tends to invite medeocre challenger.

3. Juan Carlos Giminez - again poor opposition

4. Robin Reid - Reid was well beaten by a 38 year old Sugar Boy Malinga. He had no where to go...face Joe and gave him his hardest fight. Joe was 28 at the time....people must be crazy if they thought Joe would have beaten Jones at Hopkins in their prime. (former champ)

5. Rick Thornbery- another shocker...how does Warren and the WBO get away with it ....lol

6. David Starie...somehow Warren manouvered Starie into no:1 challenger spot...Calzaghe was poor in a UD

7. Omar Sheika - Pexcellent display from Joe...stopped Sheika a glorified journeyman/brawler in 6.

8. Riche woodhall - Former champ came out of semi retirement to face Joe...again Joe faced a fighter on the way down....a constant theme in his career.

9. Mario Viet - another very poor no:1 challenger

10. Wll Mcyntyre- Will Who ??????rofl...no wonder Hopkins and Jones werent interested in JOE then ....he didnt really make an effort to face a decent fighter those days.

11. Charles Brewer - former champ again had no where to go after losing his title and had been beaten up by Antwun Echols prior + lost to good old SVEN.....another fighter on the slide....

12. Miguel Angel Jiminez- very sterile opposition WBO seem to sanction anything....as if Frank Warren needs encouragement.

14.Byron Mitchell - probably Joes best test to that point...mitchel was never p4p material was coming of a loss....a top 5 supermiddle ...Joe was super in this fight despite the home cooking stopage from the most currupt official in uk. former champ

17. Mario Viet- this makes Hopkins defences against Robert Allen look like ALI - FRAZIER

18.Evans Ashira- Kessler sparring partner--need I say more

19. Jeff Lacy - AT LAST calzaghe faces an unbeaten fighter on his way up, Lacy struggled against Omar Sheika (splt decision) but convinced veryone he was a Mike Tyson by beating a 35 yr old REID and 38 Pemberton. Calzaghes signature win.

22. Kessler - possibly Joes best performance excellent display against a vastly over rated fighter.....Who has Kessler ever beaten??? Andrade??? Rofl give me a break.

6. Tom Johnson - Johnson was the longest reigning champ in boxing at the time 13 defences of IBF title. ring had im P4P nr:12 at the time. Hamed Kod him in 8.

7. Billy Hardy - past his sell by date and was treated as such Kod in 1

12. Wayne Mccolough....rock hard Irishman ...1st fight Hamed doesnt get a KO. (former champ)

13. Paul Ingle- win was dubious at the time but Ingle went on to become IBF champ Koing Jr Jones...


14. Cezar Soto - WBC champ beat hameds nearest challenger (Luisiti Espinosa) - Hamed looked poor but fought the guy in the states ...unifies the title again.

15. Vuyani Bungu - super KO for Hamed - Bungu was an excellent super bantam champ 13 defenes (IBF current)

16. Augie Sanchez - Hamed Kod him in a war...looked an average win till Sanchez Kod Luisito Espinosa in 4 in his next fight.

17. LOSS- even though people say he got exposed...no shame in losing to an all TIME GREAT in his prime....at least he faced one and in the US.

CONCLUSION: from assesment and having followed both....Hameds resume/opposition is far superior to Joes.

Hamed and Calzaghe both fought poor oppositon ....Calzaghe though was more consistant with that.

Hamed also faced better CURRENT threats than Joe.

Hamed also beat his victims with KO. Style of win is important.

I also dont think it is any coincidence that JOE got his defining fights vs LEGENDS at light Heaby (Hopkins and Jones both past their best) after he beat Kessler and Lacy ....he became credible after those wins...something he was not when fighting Mario Viet etc.....



Over all Hameds reign was more accomplished and he was far readier to test himself. also no coincidence Hamed gets to face alegend in his prime when he leaves Warren.

ONE thing though Hamed is easily more dislikable which tends to effect judgement.

 

no Hamed is an ass....and was pleased to see a Great fighter like Barrera win.

But facts are facts....and records can be deceptive.

 

Hamed is instantly a dislikable brat....Calzaghe is a role model DAD...

that can cloud peoples judgement.

for example....Kostya Tszyu was so dignified in his reign despite losing to Hatton and Phillips...but some people rate him as the best light welter ever......for wins over Judah and Mtichell etc.

 

most Champions have arrogance...they need that

 

If Kessler and Lacy went onto super things I would change my mind.....but I am not suprised....none of those to guys are TOP draw material...

Even Calzaghe said..."whats Kessler done"
