:good Enjoyed that Hoya. People seem to think Barrera ruined Hamed but i think the rot had already set in. The way the call it a schooling is a joke 115-112, 116-111 shows it was a close fight. Hope it makes the front page :good
I still think he could've done himself justice and tried fighting on at the top level, building towards a re-match with Barrera. Maybe he could've proved himself against Morales or another elite fighter. Because he didn't try it is hard to say he deserves to be given the benefit of the doubt in fantasy match ups but I am a believer that he was a top class, elite fighter and an undisputed champ before Barrera stepped up, people forget that, It's still just a shame we never saw more. I'm not totally won over by his reasons to retire although I completely understand why he would with all that money he already had.
Too much money got to his head. He thought near the end he could just turn up and win the fights, did not even train properly, lost hunger for the sport. Used to be a big fan, but he sold us out in the end.
I feel that Hamed could have been one of the greatest brit fighters of all time, he needed better training and a better regime outside of the ring. All the hangers on and yes men didn't help him at all. He was a very dangerous fighter but had serious flaws which Barrera exposed. If Freddie Roach could have got involved I am sure Hamed would have been able to mix it with the likes of Morales, Marquez and Barrera. Indeed the fight with Barrera was not as much a schooling as people suggested but Hamed looked out of his depth imo.
For me he is one of the greatest of all time.Hamed did'nt have a style where he could change trainers and be as effective imo.Ingle was the trainer for him, after that i could'nt see any trainer improving him with the style he had.I'd say 3 years before he lost to barrera he was showing signs of deteriation.Sanchez and kelly should'nt of been hitting him and dropping him like they did.I actually think if he stayed focus, he'd of probably beat all 3 you mentioned......
I didn't see any signs of deterioration against Kelley or Sanchez. Look at Sanchez's record prior to Hamed, the kid was a massive puncher with an awsome KO record, no surprise that he put Hamed down. Same with Kelley, 1996 version of Hamed was absolute prime, how can you say there were signs of deterioration already? Maybe signs of vulnerabilty. Also, I think Hamed's best performance came in 2000 against Bungu, and incidently the best physical shape I saw Hamed in, was against McCullough in '98.

I thought hamed was in decline, his style become much more readable, loading up alot more, looking for the ko.Did you not think he was in decline before Barrera ????His laziness was his vunerability, he become lazy in the gym, it's well documented.He did'nt even believe in road work anymore.The build up in the barrera fight was a joke.He was finished mentally.No hunger, no determination.Thats why he did'nt comeback after the joker he looked v's calvo
