But have you seen Paul fight? Does he really impress you? I mean, you're a Mayweather fan but you're impressed by Paul who may have a lot of potential, but often shows limited skills. For one, he's not that fast. You would expect him to be fast because of his build, but he's not. Two, he often gives up his height when he should be boxing at a distance. Three, his power is questionable. Four, his defense is off and on. When he gives up his height, he has a tendency to get hit a lot, but fortunately he hasn't faced any serious punchers. To me, Paul put on his career best performance against Margarito, but even then, Margarito blocked the majority of his shots, and considering it was Margarito of all people who was showing good defense, that means either Paul is slow or predictable. He also got hit flush too many times in that fight, but I'll let it slide because Margarito is an incredibly relentless fighter, and if you're trying to play keep away, unless you have some serious power ala Hearns, at one point he's going to touch you. On the bright side, Williams showed the ability to box very well and made it look easy. He was hooking and turning Margarito, using the jab effectively, and basically putting on an exhitibition. He also managed to throw a large number of punches and in the 12th round came out looking like a new man as if he didn't get tired at all, and this was after Margarito's last charge where he put everything into it, yet still couldn't stop Williams. Then again, a fight or two later, Quintana put on a boxing exhibition on Williams, which took advantage of William's lack of handspeed, and was able to score effectively on Williams on the inside by making the bigger man have to adjust and reset himself which he had trouble doing and appeared very lethargic. Yes, Paul Williams did put Quintana out again in the first round, but that's a hard fight to tell whether or not Paul Williams improved or Quintana just didn't show up. What was obvious though was Paul Williams did make an adjustment and decided to be the aggressor before Quintana had a chance to warm up. In another fight, Paul Williams fought Vernon Phillips, and while Williams showed effective body punching which is a very good thing, he often gave up his height in order to do so and made the fight look way to sloppy and gave Phillips an opportunity to land a big punch that he just couldn't cash out on. So Paul Williams is an anamoly. It's hard to say what he will do against Wright. Depending on how Wright comes into this fight, he may make Paul Williams look like a complete amateur as Paul inneffectively flails away at gloves and arms which he's shown a tendency to do. Winky may also be able to turn Paul repeatedly as Paul is a tall lanky fighter that lacks great speed, so Winky SHOULD be able to turn him. And given Winky's recent aggressive style it looks like he could dominate the inside with his faster hands and tighter defense. And this is definitely possible because Paul often gives up his number one asset which is his size. And that right there is the problem. If Paul's number one asset is his size, what can he really amount to? I mean, there are other factors like for instance the competition at 154 is garbage for the most part, but still.... Even against a guy like Kirkland, if Paul gives up his height and fights inside, Kirkland may knock him out. And Kirkland has very little skill. Paul just needs to start acting like his size and boxing more from the outside, but still going to the body effectively like he showed he could do against Phillips. If Paul sits on his punches more, works on his uppercuts, tries to improve his handspeed, and goes to the body, he can win this fight and be the dominant force in the 154 pound weight division. But right now, there are way too many questions. And while I may be wrong, I have to go with Wright in a fight that will be hard to watch. I'll still watch it anyway though.
I disagree with alot of what you just said but that isn't the point to this thread... THIS THREAD is asking if you'll give him credit for what he's done if he beats Winky Wright?? WHAT DOES PAUL WILLIAMS HAVE TO DO TO GET YOUR RESPECT? How many other fighters do you know of are willing to move up and down through 4 weight divisions to get fights cuz ery 1 WORTH FIGHTING won't step in the ring? Cotto never responded to Paul after Paul called him out....Mosley and Zab both turned him down...Cintron wanted none...Margo didn't wanna rematch for 4 million dollars...Pavlik didn't want the fight..Dawson said in the future he'd move down to 168 when the time is right and Paul responded he'd do it also....theres no need to fight quintana at this point...Quintanas last fight was against a guy who was 14-15-1 and Carlos got stopped in 90 seconds in the 2nd fight with Paul...What does Williams have to do? Fight Vitali Klitchko:huh I'm a fan of Floyd, yes...But I'm a fan of boxing first...I've been watching this sport long before Floyd was an olympian and I'll continue to watch it without Floyd..
:huh Erm...don't you mean Dzinziruk? I don't think that anyone thinks PW is ducking light-heavyweight Diaconu.
Lol, this is ESB though...wouldn't suprise me if someone made a serious thread about it (not you). :yep
Good post homie...I agree with every point you touched up on but the fact still remains some will still find the smallest thing to ***** about (mainly the Margorito nuthuggers) They will try their hardest to discredit this win. WAR PUNISHER! :bbb
Your opinion means jack **** when you come up with a flawed, dumbass thread like this! OWNED!:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=127649&page=4
Williams may not have a ton of speed but he mos def isn't slow by any means...I mean he throws that jab out there quick and it's very hard to counter over not only cuz it's so high, but because its a quick jab as well...His footspeed is pretty good too..He's able to move his feet and get in position to punch very quickly! You say he gives up his height "when he should be boxing tall..." The man is a proffesional boxer...You can't tell him how to box better or worse...the person in that position is his trainer....You have no right to tell Paul how he should be boxing...If you were in the same gym as Paul would you go up to him and tell him "Your a good fighter and everything but you should be boxing tall cuz your usually the taller man." He'd probably tell you to get in the ring and show him what you mean while ya'll spar n then he'd whoop yo a$$..He's a Top 15 fighter in the world, you nor I can tell him to box tall..What he's doing is obviously working.. You say his power is questionable..In what division??:think He has 27kos in his 36 wins...He has beaten all 36 of his opponents without any question..He knocked Quintana out in 90 seconds...at 147 I'd say he has some real good power.. Margarito blocked alotta shots in his fight with Williams BUT WILLIAMS THREW 1256 PUNCHES IN THAT FIGHT...IF YOUR THROWING 1256 PUNCHES IN AND YOU LAND 25% YOU ARE PUTTING ON A SHOW IF NOT A CLINIC! Now to your statement about how Paul got hit flush to many times...HE PROVED HE HAD A DAMN CHIN WHEN HE FOUGHT TONY DIDN'T HE....TILL THAN WE DIDN'T KNOW HOW GOOD HIS CHIN WAS:deal You said Paul needs to start boxing his size...WHY WOULD HE DO THAT WHEN HE'S WINNING WORLD TITLES AND FIGHTING FIGHTERS WHO ARE AT THE VERY LEAST JUST GOOD FIGHTERS AND NOTHING MORE..WHY WOULD YOU CHANGE SOMETHING THATS WORKING FOR YOU..:bbb THIS MAN IS WINNING WORLD TITLES AND FIGHTING AT 3 (WANTS TO FIGHT AT 4) DIFFERENT WEIGHT DIVISIONS AND YOU THINK HE SHOULD SWITCH UP THE WAY HE FIGHTS..HELL NAH THAT WOULD BE THE DUMBEST THING HE COULD DO...atsch SCHOOLS OUT:nono
rudy check out my long ass response..read the bold letters and than read my response to each one...i took that ol boi to school!
I mean really though..What does williams have to do to get some respect?? He's winning fights in mulitple weight classes..His next fight is 2 weight classes above his best weight classs...That muh fu34a is juss not liked...I MEAN SOMEONE SUGGESTED HE NEEDA GIVE CARLOS A RUBBERMATCH:rofl
