Yeh, the gods certainly smiled more on Green than Briggs. I dont consider Briggs never being World champ a tragedy, but i consider the fact that he was never able to cash in with some decent fights in the States after the 2 Adamek fights a tragedy. And just on Mundine, i remember Khoder being interviwed before a Choc fight and Briggs was saying how there's so many exciting mathups out there and he went through some names and mentioned himself, Khoder cut him off and said, "Briggs Mundine? Briggs Mundine?, where do we sign". And Briggs just changed the subject. Thats the first time ive heard Khoder publicly jump at a fight instead of giving the usual "make it worthwhile and we'll consider it" crap.
Hmm interesting, I hadn't heard of this taking place between the two.. But while Briggs was trying to trim to SMW I remember he had Mundine in mind. Do you remember how long ago this was SMF?
Yeah... just like the 'Green' dreamers believed Danny would. Briggs was a great fighter, no doubt... Mundine would have been too much at SM/W.
Can someone give an indepth perspective on the happenings in the Geale bout last night??? From start to finish please.
Great to have seen such a fantastic fight night featuring some of the best aussie talent. We are in for a few really golden years. I thought Zap rose to the occasion again and I look forward to a title tilt real soon. St Clair is a little beyond it i think but i admired his courage. Dib was aggressive, a little like the kid of old. he showed a lot more maturity than I've seen in a wwhile. davey browne showed some heart but was totaly outclassed on the night. i hope we see more good stuff from him in the future. Sol looked like he needed some serious fitness work. and as for Geale, i feel a little sorry for the bloke. he is a world champion but almost unheard of. Maybe the Mundine fight will be an opportunity for him to stamp some authority. well done to grange for putting it on and to the boxers who made it all happen. can't wait for the next big fight night of this calibre.
Totally agree with this 100%. Green won the lottery whereas Briggs won 2nd prize at a meat raffle. It sucks imo but thats life. Briggs > Green imo.
Please don't refer to Geale as a world champion. We all know his IBO belt means nothing. He hasn't fought anyone at all yet. Good luck to the bloke for taking the step up against Mundine. If he gets through that and then progresses to win a genuine world belt then we can say he is a world champion, certainly not at this stage.
It annoys me how fighters like Green won the title agaist Stipe, while Briggs fought the next level up against adamek for the title and lost. Where certain fighters are "world champs" fighting not world champ caliber opposition, whereas other fighters fight legit champ and lose. If you get what i mean.
I'm pretty sure it was in 07 mate. There was actually quite a bit of press about it at the time, if you do a google on it, some articles might pop up.
Yes it was a brilliant post but take it a step futher Francis, all these guys running around calling themselves "champ" means **** all really mate unless they have unified the division, just imagine if all the major ABC's let alone the fringe org's went down the WBA's route of proclaiming TWO "Champs " per weight lol what a mess , One World , One Weight , One Champ .
