Ive just been clicking through profiles in box rec randomly and realised that Khan's last fight "***an" was Julio Cesar Chavez Jr 4th fight with no previous back ground of fighting and i dont rate Chavez Jr that well. so made me think is all this "khan will win" another smoke screen like Prescott was and should i put money on MAB NOW!:huh
Nope.... Lightning doesn't strike twice. Khan loses again he's finished... his team wouldn't take the risk unless they were adament they could pull it off.. I think Khan may even get the stoppage. Barrera's a moody character, he doesn't have that fire anymore and once its gone.... its usually gone for good. Barrera hasn't suffered the type of pressure Khan will put him under since the first Pac fight. The second Pac fight was not anywhere near as intense due to Marcos reluctance to engage. Juarez, poor workrate..... Marquez cool and calculating but strictly a counter puncher. Pedan?? Didn't even try to win. If Barrera puts intense pressure on Khan he will win, but he won't- because he doesn't have 'it' anymore and hasn't since the first Morales fight... at least unless Morales was in the other corner.
Nice analysis Jeff. I do however feel that MAB sees this as his last big chance and he's made it known that he's chasing another title at another weight so I'm not so sure he'll be reluctant to bring it to Khan. His only real chance of winning is putting Khan under pressure and maintaining that pressure, otherwise a disciplined Khan will keep him away all night. You know the old saying that every great fighter has one last great fight inside of them.
:good I am surprised you are picking Khan, I really am...you make a good case...and you aren't hedging your bets that much either... thumbsupthumbsup:thumbsup
Barrera didnt put 'intense' pressure on Pacman in their second fight because that would've been the wrong strategy to fight Pacman. Pacman beat Barrera to a pulp when Barrera was in his prime 6 years ago and made him quit. Partly because Barrera applied relentless pressure on Pacman and ran into Mannys fast hands. In their second fight, instead Barrera adopted an approach similar to Marquez - Pacman I. After the knock downs Marquez had success every time he boxed instead of pressured Pacman. Therefore, the apparent lack of intense pressure in the Pacman fight is not really an indication of a fire thats been put out. In fact, it was a strategy that proved to be successful to good degree in their second fight. He knocked Marquez down you dont knock Marquez down unless you are mentally and physically fit. There has been much made about how far past Barrera is from his prime to diminish Khan's possible victory. Which I doubt he will, Khan may not have recovered mentally from the Prescott fight, that was barely 6 months ago.
The problem is that Khan does'nt punch as hard as Pac or Marquez. The problem is that Khan is'nt a big puncher. The only thing i'm worried about is the cut opening back up for Barrera. Barrera really should put Khan to sleep, and i'm talking light's out, worse than what Prescott did. I don't think the fight will end faster than the Prescott fight at all but it should end in a more brutal fashion. I'm mean come on, this is a guy who nearly got KTFO by Willie Limond. :deal
To me, the biggest question is whether Barrera's still got the legs. Khan is fast, he can bang, he has stamina and workrate...AND HE IS BIG...but if Barrera can use his legs to get inside and rough Khan up a bit, Khan's advantages will not be so big. Khan will try and keep it on the outside. If he manages to do that, he will win fairly confortably. Barrera shouldn't look to win on workrate or get into a brawl with Khan. He should look to get inside and fire precise, effective combinations, with some bite, keeping well out of trouble. He should look to stay at the distance that suits him and not Khan. Experience will play a big role. So will will to win. Can Barrera still do this? My gut reaction is that he cannot. But Khan is still so raw. He could get hustled in there by Barrera and lose the plot...very hard to say...how shot is Barrera exactly??
He IS a big puncher IMO Jeff. :good He is also very very fast and with his much improved defence thanks to Freddie Roach he will be very difficult to catch. I don't think Khan wil KO MAB, I think it will go to the cards.
One point people are missing is Barrera coming up in weight ... now yeah everyone will say Pacman did it but hes a freak in the gd sense of the word odviously ! ... Khan IMO looks bigger and stronger at the weight and khan is a light welter weight in the making .... the match up in weight terms looks massive . Khan looks huge in comparison with MAB ! Barrera is a legend as naseem hamed will testify but at 35 moving up in weight does he really have that motivation ? hes been in with great great boxers and I just struggle to see his motivation for this fight .... Khan on the other hand hasnt been there and this is a pressure cooker fight .... I hope Khan wins and goes on to fight JMM for a world title (but i think we all know the outcome there) ... as no matter what his publicity machine is all about this kid does have talent and works hard at his game .... its a fascinating match up and im looking fwd to this big time ....
Because he need's to break people down and even then there have been claims of early stoppages. He's a decent puncher don't get me wrong, but it's mostly about speed over power with Khan. Marquez and Pac have both and khan does'nt have what they have to trouble Barrera. Khans not putting people to sleep with one shot. He's not a big puncher. In some cases he's having to land shitloads of shot's even on the likes of Limond and past it Gomez. Barrera is still so far ahead of these guy's it's not even funny. I don't see how a man who had so much trouble with Willie Limond can beat Barrera. The only thing Khan has over this version of Barrera is hand speed, height and reach. Barrera is better than him in every other department and a much better, smarter boxer and fighter. Barrera is the real complete fighter here. Khan has had too much trouble with lighter guy's and lesser fighter's than Barrera in the past. I think if Barrera comes to to box or fight, either way he win's.
