Ask the hispanics...they buy most of the **** (sorry to say to all Hispanic boxing fans on ESB)...

  4. The best way to show your disgust for such low grade PPV events is not to pay for them.

Would you rather the fights not get made at all? It's PPV - what do you care if you're not going to buy it. There are a limited number of TV slots, and the fact that he puts these fights on a PPV you don't watch means he's not taking up the free cards with these **** fights. You should be thanking Bob Arum.

There are two (related) causes for this:
    1) HBO is trying to clean up its act a bit and show fewer mismatches and are passing; it looks like Showtime is doing the same. That leaves Arum to put the fight on himself. I guess he's too "proud" to take his fighter to ESPN.

    2) There's bad blood between Arum and HBO and HBO could be passing on the fight just to **** him off. This doesn't explain Showtime, though.

For some interesting background, see Thomas Hauser's column on SecondsOut dot com. He has a recent one about Arum's last "two card PPV". I disagree with Hauser to some extent as he seems to extole Arum as "forward thinking" with this two-card idea. I think he should be getting the fights on TV.

My question: did anyone see any numbers on the Pavlik/Cotto card? Is there any way they make money off of this?

Very good response, this is the type of response I like to see, gives me a bit more understanding as to why some of these obissmal cards get put onto ppv. I mean if all the fights were evenly matched I could understand but to pay to see probably 3 one sided beatdowns is just a total waste of hard earned money and Im sure eventually this could start to do more harm than good in the long run if regular mismatches get put onto ppv, numbers will drop to an all time low I believe and most will just catch a stream instead of buying it.

Its not the fact that the fights are getting made, mismatches are mismatches but having to pay to see mismatches, come on.

If your going to buy this card your either a fan of either fighter, someone who can afford to waste money, or someone who doesn't mind seeing a one sided beatdown and paying to see it, either way you would be in the minority to support this garbage as a true boxing fan and as a true boxing fan I would not spend money on this because its definetly not worth a PPV level of event and to some extent its probably worse than the last PPV they put on with Pavlik vs Rubio & others but to some extent I can understand that PPV because there was an air of what if to both fights.

Sad fact is the more people pay to see these bull**** cards the more it'll happen.
If people passed on this crap before long you'd be seeing top cards most of the time. Network executives would insist upon it. It's not going to happen though, as you say too many different groups, fans, people with too much cash etc will keep paying.

Because the promoters can make a living of the people buying the PPVs.

Pavlik will lose some fans if he continues to fight on PPV's.

He is not worthy of being a PPV draw.
