Nope. It's all about clean punches. I don't know how, but boxing and its fans have lost their way in the last few years. Now everyone prizes "workrate". It's sucking the skill out of the sport.

Someone made a video of all Hopkins best moments of the fight and they'll still just mainly got him clinching and hugging

Its been nearly a year since the fight!

Calzaghe won fair and square and no matter how many threads you post the result will always be the same

If the workrate had consisted of punches instead of slaps I would understand but damn...how can a fighter *****-slap their opponent for 12 rounds and win?

Unless the rules clearly identify what the scoring priority is then a fight is open to interpretation.

But please enough already, it was a close fight, he wasn't robbed.

Yep, he slapped him fair and square, that's why he won't fight him again right?

I thought real champions gave rematches in such a close fight?

It's true, the best punches landed in that fight were clearly landed by Hopkins... and those punches were really snapping Calzaghe's head around. The size differencial was very apparent to me. I got the impression during the fight that if Hops had decided to come forward more he would've KOed Calzaghe for sure. Sadly he didn't and lost a decision by being outworked with Joe's happy slaps.

If the slaps landed cleanly he would still score points, but they didn't. Hitting gloves and shoulders and fresh air are not scoring shots. He was awarded rounds simply for moving his arms about. The artisan beats the artist. We can't call boxing the Sweet Science anymore, not when the majority of people believe you are a clear winner just by moving your arms around a lot while connecting with virtually nothing.
