I think Showtime has the more fan friendly fights whereas HBO has the bigger money fights (for the most part). Opinions...?:bbb
I think that's a good way to describe it. HBO's budget (even with the amount of cash in it shrinking) is still vastly superior to Showtime's. Showtime usually gets the fights that HBO has no interest in which fortunately for us means a lot of smaller weight class fighters putting up tremendous performances.
HBO has had a great start to 2009. If they continue to be smarter about the fights they buy, we will all be better off. Pavlik-Lockett was **** and thankfully HBO didn't buy Pavlik-Rubio. They need to keep it up. Showtime has done a great job, especially with Shobox lately, getting us some high quality championship fights with non mainstream fighters.
Showtime has better quality matchups but HBO has the bigger budget and puts on more fights.. Quality VS quantity
Obviously, the answer is HBO. But that's not a fair comparison as their budget is much higher than Showtimes. But Showtime almost never put on freak shows. Their fights are usually between two highly ranked fighters in the same weight class that have a lot of bearing.
To be fair last week was the first HBO card since Jan that wasn't up to par. They've had quite a few good/great showcase fights recently.
Thats exactly how I see it, the build-up just seems to be done better by HBO which probably draws the average fans in more, while Showtime is probaly more respected by the diehard boxing fans for the most part, thats just my opinion though.
I mean if Vazquez vs Marquez would have been on HBO just imagine the hype by the third fight....:nut....instead Showtime had that small 5 minute show a fw times and that was it.
I disagree on last week. Kirkland-Julio on paper is a terrific main event for BAD. Did you sing this song before the beatdown? The Ortiz fight was a step up in competition and he happened to outclass Arnaoutis. It doesn't mean it was a bad match up. Guerrero was in for a long fight until the butt. I liked that card on paper. Can't blame HBO for the outcomes. And you say since Jan? January was Berto-Collazo. So you have to go to December to find a **** HBO card. And they were put in a bind with Povetkin dropping out.
Exactly, you remember all countdown type shows HBO did for the Hopkins/Calzaghe and Calzaghe/Jones, I thought they over did it a bit, but if thats what brings news fans to the sport, who am I to complain.
HBO had Mosley/Margo, Hopkins/Pavlik, JMM/Diaz, is gonna have Hatton/Pac......this isn't even debatable.
