a lot of people ranked ricardo lopez between 65-85. now that calderon is slowly showing dominance in lower weights, could he be top 100 ATG too, perhaps even higher than dela hoya and calzaghe? please justify your answer with regards to ivan calderon's claim to be top 100 ATG to ricardo lopez's ability and what he had accomplished.
I said no cause calderon's level of opposition isn't the great(not his fault at all he fights everyone even at higher weights than he should be)
Nope...his level of opposition is no better than Finito's and he does not look as good as Ricardo either. Really Lopez shouldnt be that high, though I think I have considered him around 70-80 in the past. There have been several guys with comparable records and often even better overall ability who dont get a look in because no one bothers to check them out. In a general sense Lopez is underrated because he was one of the better fighters of his era but no one noticed because of he was at such a low weight. But compared to some of the past greats who have been at flyweight and below..I think Ricardo is getting a bit overrated because he seems to be the only fighter anyone has heard of from those lower weights and better fighters are being overlooked. I think there is a chance Calderon could retire with a higher standing then Joe if he gets a move on with the big wins..but he is pretty far off De la Hoya IMO.
Id say much more..Calderon's best names thus far have been Lopez left overs from memory. Lopez presided over a pretty weak division but well and truly cleaned it out..the same could not be said of Ivan, who is still some ways off being the man at lightfly aswell. Couple that with the fact I think Lopez is just the better overall fighter who would have mopped the floor with Calderon and I dont see them being even close yet.
ME2... He's a fine boxer but he's never thrilling... Box box box run run run.. A featherfisted guy like him has to fight nearly a perfect fight in every matchup to win so i do respect that but he's boring... Resume is shallow too which isn't his fault but.... He should fight Roman Gonzalez immediately or move up for Solis or Sosa..
if he beats solis and continues to be in a top 10 p4p for three more years, he had done what lopez had done...and lopez is a legit top 100 ATG
does lopez resume really sh!ts that of calderon?...calderon manages to beat cazares a much bigger guy than him
it's not necessarily his resume, but more the way he got it done, the man was very very impressive... Calderon can box, but you've never seen a perfomance from him that just screams, ATG!...atleast i never have
