Liverpool's Tony Quigley has been handed a dream opportunity to win the British super-middleweight title, following Brian Magee's withdrawal from a scheduled defence against Tony Dodson on March 28. Belfast's Magee was forced to cancel the defence of his belt due to a back injury suffered in training. However, Magee's misfortune has now worked in Quigley's favour, as he steps in to fill the void against fellow Liverpudlian Dodson at the Echo Arena in Liverpool. The prestigious British title has been relinquished by the injured Magee and will remain on the line in Liverpool on March 28. Already in training for an English title shot on March 28, Quigley now gets the chance to go one better and land the Lonsdale belt. Dodson, meanwhile, remains on course to win back the title he never lost in the ring. The all-Liverpool clash between Dodson and Quigley conjures memories of the classic Stanley Park dust-up between Shea Neary and Andy Holligan in 1998. http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=19047&more=1
Seems a bit harsh on Magee. Is this normal practice for British titles in these situations? Does Magee get a chance to regain the title by fighting the winner?
Yeh but like McEntyre Magee will be automatic mandatory when he comes back. Im sure Hayemaker have a deal in place.
i'm bit shocked paul davids not been given the nod but i think this will be a better match up for fans two scousers going toe to toe and slugging it out. gutted magees out i knew someone on this card would get injured damn shame but he be back. hayemaker promotions are doing alot right about now that mersey beatdowns going to be a cracking show.
...shame...disappointed for everyone, including Dodson...I know he would have wanted the much bigger test.
I'm surprised Paul David hasn't been given the shot aswell. Afterall he's the reigning English champion and has wins over Peter Haymer, Andrew Lowe and Tyrone Wright. Anyway I'm sure the all Scouse affair will sell well and help make the card a success.
he has been bad mouthing quigley and i think tyrone wright aswell so i guess you either like him or hate him.
This is sh1te - Paul David should have had the nod here, but as Don King once said to Buncey in a steakhouse in Mexico...... Come and have a home show for the first time since Bozzy Witter, have it in my garden and I promise I won't draw the curtains....
Think its a bit harsh to say its fallin to pieces. These are the liverpool lads match ups.. British Super-Middleweight title Tony Dodson v Tony Quigley - all liverpool derby for a title, will be a war! British Lightweight Title Eliminator John Watson v Martin Gethin David Price v Dave Ingleby - Not a bad debut opponents seeing as tho he just did 10 rounds with Pele last week, can punch a bit too. Derry Mathews v Harry Ramagoadi - Mathews comeback fight and first at super feather, against dangerous, tricky opponent. Joe McNally v Graham Delehedy - all liverpool derby between two bangers
Just the top two fights that headlined the show gone. Never great for a promoter but hopefully the rest of the card should pull it together for the fans. Been to a few shows that have had late pull outs and then I have been left watching mis matches. Hayemaker has a good undercard once again especially if Maguire, Woodhouse and Groves are still appearing. Quigley is a good fighter and should make a good attraction for the Liverpool lot. Did not know Matthews was in against Ramagoadi. Seen Ram fight the odd time and he is always dangerous and pulls off the odd upset. Ingleby has a good punch so this fight is pretty dangerous for Price. Best of luck to him. Dave - Any chance of keeping Small on the bill? Or is he off now?
I've heard people say Price is chinny and Ingleby can punch a bit, KO'd one of Maloney's young heavys earlier this year in the first. Not bad for a first fight.
