BTW, Boo, I went ahead and voted yes, though truly undecided. Undercard might be good, and if I have it, I guess I'd still pay to see Pav blast Mora (just from hate of Mora).

but hopefully it will BOMB bad and teach Mr Arum to come the **** on with it.

I agree with most of your post here Jeff, but it's really not relevant to this thread. I don't really give a flying **** what AA does. THE NUMBER ONE reason I have been such a die hard Pavlik fan for the past few years is that Kelly has always shown himself to be a blood and guts warrior. A knock him down and he'll get up a kill ya type fighter who ducked no one, called out the big names, and fought anybody who would dare to get in front of him. Back to back fights with Rubio and Mora is a serious step backward from '05 thru '08. Kelly's wife just gave birth to their second child, and family can change a man. If he allows Arum to pawn this **** off on him, I will have serious questions about where his head is.

Yeah, but Kelly has/had the potential to become a national/network TV icon with bigtime sponsors. He's not an Ali type of a charismatic, controversial character, but a big punching, exciting fighter, and especially in bad economical times like this, this cool, 'average' (one of us), hard working kid image could be very popular, just like in many boxers in the Great Depression. And since he's a likeable character, chances are good that he'd make more fans even in losing than in blowing out no-hopers in the VIP club.

Instead, Arum is putting him on smalltime PPVs to rip the last cents out of the ever shrinking loyal customers with shitty one-sided shows. Bob is doing the exact opposite what he should be doing. Kelly Pavlik is no PPV superstar, never was built up like one, and in the months Arum should think long term, no PPV and get the public's and sponsors attention, he thinks short term, small time, guaranteed $$$ (casino fees and ppv share).

I won't pay for PPV. But will watch if it's on HBO.

UFC puts boxing to shame in terms of offering good cards and competitive matchups.

    Boxing needs a Dana White.

what if margaritos on the PPV? that'd create a stir and a lotta people would be tuning in to - see if he still has it without loaded gloves and after all the punches he's eaten over the years and especially in his last savage beating by mosely- to pray that someone else knocks out his cheating ass- and out of pure curiosty. I don't think i could help myself from watching it if Margo's on the card too. But Mora is another terribly weak and small opponent in a and awful title reign vastly inferior to even Taylor's.

yeah i can't disagree that margo on the card wouldnt peak some people's attention. haha but wow would that suck for pavlik and his whole team that some cheatin ass fool on your undercard takes away from the main event which you are in and you are the reigning middleweight kingpin...it looks like the decision of whether to do it will be a contest between arum's ego (reason for not wanting his headlining fight overshadowed) v. arum's greed (because he knows it will prolly mean more $$)

The worst part is... Mora always makes a **** fight... he's a runner... no power... stinks the joint out.

If Kelly wants to fight a joke, why not go with Duddy. At least it might be entertaining.

Dana White? The same fighters keep fighting each other. They have no real superstar that can hold the title for a minute. Now you have WWE fighters taking over. I heard Bobby Ashley is now in MMA. Boxing is getting somewhat better, but nowhere near where it suppose to be.

Fighting Mora would be bad for Pavlik because Sergio is exactly the kind of fighter that could last the distance with Kelly and make him look bad.

I will pay for the Manny Pac-Hatton PPV because that is one hell of a MegaFight. I would pay to watch Pretty Boy take the winner, or to watch James Toney bitchslap the **** out of Bernard Hopkins. I'd PROBABLY pay to watch the gay Klitschkos fight each other for all the marbles. And I'd pay to watch Oscar get KO'd against the Son of the Lion of Culiacan. But thats it. Bob Arum is spitting in the face of all Boxing Fans, and it's starting to get on my last nerve. :fire

Let's see. If we add up all of the ESB members that went to see Pavlik/Rubio, we get 5 or 6 tops? Hell, lets say some of the lurkers went and use 10. 10/7200 = 0.0014? Pretty small fraction of the paying public. Think the PPV numbers were any better? Want to bet a higher percentage didn't pay at all but still watched the fight somehow?

Pipe hit the nail on the head. The money in this business is not about pleasing the hard core. If it was, there would be no professional boxing. At least not as we know it. This is about NAME RECOGNITION. Like it or not.

People keep talking about Duddy. Duddy did not want this fight. Not now. He is committed to going back down to 154. Very wise move at this point in his career. Watching Pat Burns with him in the corner was amazing. He will do Duddy a lot of good. I'm convinced of that. But the fact that many don't know his plans and keep calling for this fight tell me that even the 'hard core fans' aren't keeping up with this.

I don't see Tom T starting a thread about boycotting Abraham's fight with some guy who's name I STILL have to look up if I want to use it. (Obviously I didn't take the time just now) Sturm is simply written off and given pretty much a free pass since it is expected of him to NEVER fight a threat again as long as he is in boxing if the WBA doesn't mandate it.

    History Lesson 101
    Kelly wins title.
    1. Taylor mandatory rematch.
    2. Lockett, mandatory.
    3. BHop cuz AA was busy and Calzaghe was running so fast and hard that he had to fire his manager who was negotiating the fight!
    4. Rubio, mandatory.

Now he is in talks about his first voluntary and this is the grief he gets?

WTF have I missed here guys! He has had 4 fights since winning the title and 3 of those fights he simply HAD to take. This will be his first voluntary title defense. Tell me you can't find a few of Sturm's and Abraham's voluntaries that weren't of this caliber or LOWER.

Yeah. We all want to see the Abraham fight, but lets not lose perspective. Kelly's carrer choices should not be made on Abraham's ability to make weight at 160. That is Arthur's problem, not Kelly's and not Arum's.

Cool off folks. Step back and take a breath. Kelly has said he will retire at 30. IF he follows that plan, 3 fights a year for 4 years is still AT LEAST 12 more fights. That would be 47 total. Not bad at all. Let's not go all spastic over ONE fight.
