Had a discussion for a couple of days at the gym about how to hold your hands and it was interesting. So I was thinking, how do you have your guard?

Both hands high as traditional amateur boxingstance.
Peekabo. Like Tyson and Floyd Patterson

Your right hand by your chin and your jabarm little lower like Sugar Ray

or both hands low as Ali.

Might be a stupid question cause there is so much in defence, like reflexes and footwork etc etc. But just for fun. How is your guard and your thought´s of the different styles.

I have my guard more towards Sugar ray (my left by the chin (I´m a southpaw) and my right, the jab, little lower, around chesthight. I always relied on my reflexes and speed. however if I have to go after a guy or go inside then my hands are up by the chin.
But this is more about where you feel most comfortable. I hope you all understand what I mean. English is not my first language.:p
    All the best my friends.

My guard varies. Sometime like sugar ray if i can get away with it and the flick jab from down low is confusing my opponent. If my opponent has real good speed and is countering or catching me with shots both hands up traditional style. Always my right hand on my chin (orthodox). In close both hands up and elbows in. Sometimes its good to change the guard so the opponent has to keep thinking.

Very high, stiff guard - like some of the old German fighters many people call boring. I like to cover up a lot, parry and then explode in bursts throwing many punches countering my opponent's attack. So, kind of like a short counter-puncher. Was never particularly exciting, but didn't get hit much when I was boxing :) Been looking more fluid in training, but no time to compete. it sucks.

right hand high up my face

with my left at my chin loosly so i can drop my hand or pull it up when i need to it also allows me excellant head movement

but i rely more on lateral movement

Depends on the distance but one thing that makes it kind of open sometimes is my tendency to parry jabs with my right hand (feint, I'll take the bait, then hook around it). I'm getting better at using the shoulders to block though, so that compensates a little.

i use my shoulders and elbows to block alot in the stly of FMJ abit

I use all of them. I even use the Archie Moore/George Foreman cross arm guard.
I like to switch up the styles to adapt to situations and to keep people guessing.
