Are you guys not aware of the fact that Pacquiao, Roach and HBO ALL wanted to make Pacquiao vs Marquez II immediately after the first fight, only to have Marquez and Nacho decline an offer for close to a million dollars for the rematch, instead choosing to fly to Indonesia to fight Chris John for a fraction of that $ amount? In a fight that wasn't even televised outside Indonesia? Either Nacho, Marquez or both decided to fight for maybe a fifth of the amount he'd have gotten to fight Pacquiao, for a fight that garnered maybe one hundredth the media attention that the rematch would have garnered? This is not rumor, it's been confirmed from many writers and was covered in the HBO countdown to Marquez vs Pacquiao II, and might have even been mentioned in the Marquez vs Barrera countdown as well. I think it's fairly obvious neither Marquez or Pacquiao is scared of each other, but I think it's really amusing how Marquez fans are screaming about Pac refusing to rematch Marquez when it was Marquez declining the rematch for the first fight. Do these fans not realize this, or just pretending it never happened? And before people start flipping out, I think this was pretty obviously not a flame or baiting thread, I respect the hell out of Marquez and even though I had Pac winning both fights, they were both so close I wouldn't have had a problem with Marquez being declared the winner of either. I definitely believe a third fight is needed, but you can't everything you want the moment you want it. This thread was totally aimed at what I believe to be a select few who either don't know the whole story, or, are acting in a hypocritical manner.
You are wrong. The facts are that the JMM camp and the Pac camp were in middle of negotiations. JMM was asking for just a little more than what Arum wanted to give him (a strategy that is always used in negotiations). Take into account that at that time JMM was with Top Rank. In the meantime Erik Morales had recently lost to Barrera, and Morales was not taking it very well. Erik Morales who was also a Top Rank fighter and a MUCH BIGGER DRAW than JMM, immediately after losing to MAB pressed Arum for a shot at PAC in order to redeem himself. After all, he gained his countries respect and national attention after disposing of the man who beat Barrera twice. EM knew beating Pac was the best way to get back at MAB, and having the upperhand once again. Arum saw bigger $$$, and took JMM out of the negotiations and replaced him with Morales. JMM was pissed, and Nacho and him decided to capture another of the belts by beating Chris John which would then result in Pac having to fight JMM. Unfortunately JMM was robbed. That is the real story.
Pacman offered the rematch right off the back. at least Morlaes took the rematch with no excuses, but Marquez wanted to act like a hard ass and not take the fight. so he waits all those years to lose a close fight to Pacquaio in a rematch, but still tends to diss Pacquaio like hes running away. YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!! I like Marquez and hes p4p #2 but he just needs to shut the hell up about Pacquaio. DONT GET KNOCKDOWN 4 TIMES IN 2 FIGHTS AND YOU MIGHT HAVE A WIN!!!
From what I remember, Marquez was told how much the total pot for both fighters was, and Marquez demanded that total amount for himself. This was back before Pac or Marquez were considered big draws, and before Pacquiao became a PPV attraction with his series against Morales. I think the total pot to be split between both fighters was 1.5 million, and Marquez said he wanted that amount to himself, and he or Nacho decided not to take the fight. It was covered in the HBO countdown, did you miss that Uli? Regardless, I think it's kind of funny for Marquez to consider Pacquiao fighting Hatton for a world title and $12 million right now = "Manny's scared of a rematch," but Marquez refusing $750,000 to fight Pacquiao in exchange for maybe $100,000 or $200,000 to fight Chris John (before anyone had heard of him) in Indonesia in a non-televised fight. In JMM's mind, Manny taking a bigger fight for MORE money is proof that Pac is scared, but Marquez taking LESS money for a significantly less important or visible fight was a proud and smart move??? I mean seriously, how is that logical in any way?
the rematch happened, so what's the point of this thread again....i mean, it would've made sense 2 years ago, but now......?
The point being there are continued Marquez comments (not two years ago, right now) about Pacquiao being "scared" to fight him, and constant propaganda from his fans who either don't know the past or are refusing to acknowledge it. Marquez is a really great fighter without that ****, he doesn't need to resort to the mud slinging, especially seeing as how he seems to not want any mud slung back at him. Double standards.
You're new here.....but sorry, this topic has been discussed here to nauseum..... ......sorry, but the truth of the matter was that Pac was a willling participant in letting Murad Muhamad (his then promoter) royallydry hump him........ ......JMM refused such treatment from his then promoter Bob Arum. Its not worth the time and hassle to get into details about a subject already stale in this forum, but UliUli's post is pretty accurate, and it only begins to scratch the surface of the whole story. Enough of it! We're in the present and the deal now is that what Pac and his team are doing in avoiding a third fight with JMM is a business move....they know they were lucky to get the decision in their rematch.....and it certainly would'nt be convenient for them to risk an official loss to JMM with fights like Hatton, and Mayweather a possibility. The only time where it would make business sense for Pac to take a JMM fight would be if he runs out of opponents, and or he loses before JMM does. Lets all move on......and lets see both Pac and JMM fight great fighters beside eachother.
IF you were there, then you're a complete baffoon...... Negotiations for a JMM-Pac rematch broke down in late 2004.......Arum negotiated to have his cash cow Erik Morales at the time fight Pacquiao instead...... Morales-Pac was fought in March 2005....during that time since a Morales-Pac fight was made instead, JMM took a fight with Victor Polo in May of 2005 (this was already after Pac had lost to Morales)...... The John fight for JMM did not come until well over a year after negotiations with Pac had broken down, and it had nothing to do with JMM selecting John instead of Pac..... ....by the time JMM took the John fight, Pac was out of the picture...... Pac had actually already fought Morales twice by the time JMM was robbed against John. The point is that JMM choosing to fight John, has nothing to do with not fighting Pac......as the John fight came much later after negotiations for a JMM-Pac fight broke down. Get the clown outfit ready to wear, it should fit you perfect!:deal
The facts are out there and they're easily found. The reason why we're talking about rematches with Pac for JMM is Pacquiao his self, HELL the reason we're talking about JMM in general is Pacquiao too. Before the first fight everyone, including myself, admitted that JMM was a true A class fighter that's being turned down by many. Guess who was the first to prove them wrong and be the one to approach JMM officially?, it was Pacquiao. Same story before the rematch, Pac was the one starting official negotiations and JMM turned it down because he demanded more money. Even the Mexican fans bashed on JMM and praised Morales for taking it instead while admitting a fight with Morales is far better and will be way more entertaining for the public in terms of styles. Then it was Pacquiao once again calling out for a rematch and JMM finally took it but fell short. Now it's the same scenario but Pacquiao is telling JMM to move up as he did if he REALLY wants it. After all he has the right to do this, he was the one who gave JMM the first two fights anyway and being the winner he has the right to demand. About the Chris John fight, we can't really call it a robbery. A close fight is never a robbery, it's a type of fight that can go either way based on how the person sees it and what the person prefers in terms of styles(not race like Freddy KFC Wak). A robbery is something like Chavez Sr./Whitaker, was it that one-sided in favor of JMM?, I don't think so.
