Only talk about the fight and none of McClellans outside the ring activities as these threads usually go down the path of McClellans behaviour, Great fight and one of the best iv ever seen defo top 5 heres something i noticed in the fight McClellans mouthpiece was hanging out of his mouth from round 2 onwards was he gassed out or was he already suffering from his brain injuries?

the conventional argument ive heard is that he didnt train properly (having grown accustomed to very early ko's), and when he knocked benn down in the first round, he opened up trying to finish him and couldn't, compromising his resources for the rest of the fight sort of like taylor did against pavlik in their first fight

  3. His Iron Chin was his downfall..... Benn hit him with so much in the second round most other boxers would have been finished

i believe he was injured some time before the fight because he was blinking alot before the fight even started, which is a symptom of a blood clot. i didnt like how that ref was obviously bias towards Benn, Long count in the first and splitting them apart for extended periods of time after the Knockdown.

BBB of C rules mean the G Man would be scanned before the fight, so he could not have had any injury prior to the match. The blinking started late in the fight from my recollection. If he was blinking a lot before the fight there is absolutely no way the match would have gone ahead. The gum shield hanging out was either because he gassed, possible after starting so fast or because it was ill fitting. I think he gassed , his tactics were like a marathon runner who sprinted the first mile and then realised there were 25 to go.

Sticking out his gumshield was normal for McClellan.

one of the first fights i ever watched, stil one of the most brutal ive ever seen almost 15 years on, Mcclellan didnt train as hard as he should have after falling out with Manny, the amateurish ref didnt help him much either, but no way in a million years am i taking anything away from Benn, he was told he was going to be taken out of there easy, he battled through some how, top top top fight, will always remember it

Should have been a first round KO for the American.

    Why?

Are you talking about when Benn was sent out of the ring, giving him 20 seconds to come back, and he took 14. Nothing wrong with that.

Or the ref keeping them at bay for 1-2 seconds after Benn got back in the ring. Gerald should have been in the opposite corner. Nothing wrong with that.

There was bad referering in the later part of the first round to separate them for no cause that i can see, but it was only for a second and nothing to conclude it would have resulted in a stoppage for the G-man.

Great but tragic fight. Both men were awesome.

If your looking for blame, try Geralds corner(And therefore G himself for having that corner). According to Ingle(Who worked the bucket that night), Gerald complained at the end of the 4th of a blinding headache and at the end of the 6th that he couldnt see properly, and they sent him out for 4 more rounds.

On the subject of the fight I'd shout out the 8th round in particular, Gerald was ****in brilliant, and nearly stopped Nige. A truly great round, where after the barrage at the end of the round Nigel picked himself up and waved his hands in the air for the crowd. Both were brilliant for me, and because of the tragic outcome it isnt shown enough. Great fight.
