EDIT: O.k. I just read that you aren't necessarily comparing the specific fighters in the list, HOWEVER, it doesn't matter how you order the list - any of these comparisons between any of these fighters would read pretty much the same way - no matter who was compared to who.. there just isn't any comparison talent-wise between these two eras. At all.

    2010's 1990's

Wladimir Klitschko Mike Tyson - Sorta - both top dogs, but can't really compare the two. Tyson was just so devastating and exciting to watch. Casual fans don't even have a clue who this Klitschko guy is.
Ruslan Chagaev Evander Hoylifield - C'mon now..
Alexander Povetkin Riddick Bowe - Now friggin way.. Bowe was incredibly talented - inside, outside, had all the punches, toughness.. His time was fairly short though - but still an amazing talent. Not in the same league.
Alexander Dimitrenko Lennox Lewis - This is just goofy. :blood
Denis Boytsov George Foreman - Ummm, no. No ****ing way.
Odlanier Solis Larry Holmes - see above.
David Haye Michael Moorer - Michael Moorer was one of the best LHW's of all time, and went on to be a very good HW - winning a belt in a time of excellent HW talent. Haye seems pretty good, but what has he done in the HW division?
Chris Arreola Ray Mercer - Mercer was leaps and bounds above the fat slob Arreola. Imagine Arreola against Lennox Lewis.. think he could outbox Lewis for most of the fight like Mercer did? Hell no.
Eddie chambers Tommy Morrison - bleh.. Morrison was o.k., had great power - but I'm not gonna defend his skill..
    Chazz Witherspoon - :-(
Sam Peter - I like him actually, seems to have potential - but damn, he got his ass beat pretty hard last fight.. wasn't even a contest. Maybe a new trainer and motivation and he just might make some noise.. Not gonna hold my breath though.

You quoted my EDIT, didn't you? :?

I said that it doesn't matter how you order the names, the comparisons written would still read basically the same. Your list of "talent" looks just plain silly compared to the 90's fighters. :nut

I seriously doubt that. Judging the amount of talent there isn't that difficult. I guess one COULD say that, but it would be said moreso for the sake of an argument then an actual debate.

Yeah, once the K bros are gone, we'll have a few years left of Haye (who is 4 years younger than Wlad) who will probably run the show for a while.

But aside from Haye, that'll be about it for exciting, powerful heavyweights..................., unless someone else rises up in the meantime.

Thats what I'm saying, the thread starter seems like a positive guy and everything, but you aint going to sell me on the likes Spazz Witherspoon and Chris "Poor Man's Sam Peter" Arreola. This might sound crazy, but I would go as far to say that the next 10 years are shaping up to be even worse than the last 10. The talent level is already low, but the future looks even bleaker IMO. I just hope a Tyson like figure emerges or the Heavyweight division is as good as dead.:-(

please chagaeve, solis, dimintrreko, and arreola do not compare to evander, lewis, old holmes and even mercer. you also can't compare haye to moorer (at least at this stage). some of theguys may be solid, but at least right now they will not/cannot compare to the 90's contenders. forget about chazz and solis (and probably peter and "kingpin") altogether they won't ever compare to 90's contendes

Now the division is horrible. The division was becoming horrible in the early 90's as well and has gotten worse and worse. The 80's was probably the last decade of real boxing heavyweights. Lets face it, with exception of Riddick Bowe, probably one of the better skilled "big men", Holyfield and Lewis, there wasnt much to shake a stick at. Tyson was washed up by 90, Holyfield by 93, and Lewis bloomed late and only after learning he couldnt fight like an 80's heavyweight, and learned to fight from the outside an tie up on the inside, boring us to death. Sure he could open up every once in a while against guys like Mike Grant and Frans Botha, but anytime he got in the ring with anyone with any ioda of skill he boxed cautiously and put us all asleep.
Today its a bunch of flat footed plodding giants. There is no speed, movement or much boxing skills. The men are too big and clumsy. Look at what is considered the best heavyweight out there right now, Wlad Klistshko, hes a carbon copy of Lennox Lewis. Tall, good jab, no chin. They have to cheat to disguise their flaw by holding on the inside. As good as Lewis was he was not a complete fighter. He couldnt fight inside at all. In the 80's that was part of boxing, learning to fight inside and out. Would he or Lewis have made it as far as say Tyrell Biggs, in the mid 80's if thats when they were in their primes? I suspect not. Boxing is in need of a heavyweight superstar and boxing needs to at least go back to HBO. PPV is killing the sport.

What a horribly racist statement. You gotta give Calzahge a little more credit than that. Maybe he didnt face the best in his prime, but he still stayed undefeated, and proved he was a slick southpaw. I will say I didnt care for his style, he slapped a lot.
Wladmir Klitschko is complete garbage, and its embarassing to say he would dominate in another past era, its simply not true.

A lot of the guys about at the momment are too tall and the fights they are in are quite boring.I do like Vittali but he is about the only one of the bunch who i feel would have had a chance with the 90s bunch. The smaller fighters like chagev and Povetkin may have fared a little better as they dont purely rely on size to win fights and can box a bit.
