MAB's cornermen imo did a poor job imo.... ....before the fight reached the 4th so that it officially could go to the cards, they should have been working overtime to convince the ref and the doctor that the cut could not be stopped from bleeding.... The fact of the matter was that MAB's cutman just placed a glob of vaseline on top of the cut and the blood still flowed to the sides of it even before action was initiated...... .....if I'm in MAB's corner, I would have sent MAB out for the 3rd without the vaseline and blood pouring......under this circumstance, the doc and referee would have had no choice but to stop it..... The fight should have been stopped and ruled a no-decision anyways, but its got to be depressing if you're a MAB fan, that his corner did'nt help him out and verbally campaigned for a pre 4th round stoppage! How do you all feel about it?
I thought it was BS that they waited until the fifth round to stop the fight and hand Khan his decision win.
it was total bollocks, the officials should have called it a NC earlier, the fact they waited until the 5th stinks. I mean how ****ing blatant can you be?
Its not suprising that they would'nt stop it.....but as I look at it, the ref must have been thinking if MAB and his cornermen are not campaigning for the stoppage, I'm going to let it go on....... ......I'm baffled as to why MAB corner did'nt call the ref into their corner and told them, "look, we've tried for a couple of rounds, but the cut is too large to stop the flow of blood, and its effecting my fighters vision......I'm telling you that you should call the fight off because my fighter cant see the punches coming!" .....but nothing!:huh
That may be true.....there are certainly more intriguing and exciting matchups at lightweight with Khan to be made than a MAB that has proven he a couple of steps behind the elites near his division..... .....I always like to see fights play out to a fair and honest conclusion however..... .....after the flow of blood poured into MAB's eye, it turned from honest and fair, to just a showcase situation for Khan..... I'm not dissing Khan at all, as the kid only did what he was supposed to do and did it rather well imo.
The doctor spoke to Barrera in the fourth and looked somewhat dubious about it then, presumably Barrera was asking to be allowed to continue. Why should the corner be 'verbally campaigning' for a stoppage against their fighters wishes.
I dont know what MAB's convesation with the doctor went like.......but afterward, MAB said he did'nt know why they had'nt stopped it earlier.....meaning he thought it should have been stopped. Obviously there's a language barrier between MAB and the ref and doctor to consider. MAB speaks some english, but its broken english. ....my point however is that MAB himself stated he thought it should have been stopped earlier, and quite honestly, I feel it would have been had he and his corner spoken up and let it verbally be known that they could'nt see with the blood gushing into his eye.
I would hate to see the reaction here if the fight ended in the first round. MAB would have been dumped on (for no reason).
No question about it..... I remember Hasim Rahman getting chastised here for telling the ref he could'nt see the punches coming after James Toney headbutted him in their rematch.... In that fight, Rahman got off to a good start, but Toney started to come on after he butted Rahman...... ....when Rahman stood sitting in his corner and just kept repeating to the ref, "I cant see the punches coming."...... .....the ref had no choice but to put a halt to the contest and rule it a ND..... ......all hell broke loose on Rahman on this board, but I honestly sided with Rahman at that time......as I have done with other fighters when they have been butted and it resulted in nasty cuts......
Of course it should have but Barrera was there to add his name to Khans record , he knew it , the ref knew it and thus it was allowed to go on.
Shold have, could have. Not the first time a fighter has had a brutal cut and the fights continued guys. Klitchko, Marciano etc Suck it up and lets move on.
The Klitchko butt was ruled from a punch, if his corner campaigned to have it stopped, he'd have lost right then and there. Can you name me a fight where there was a first or second round butt that resulted in a nasty gash that had blood gushing uncontrolably.....and the fighter that was cut and losing aloud it to continue past the fourth round????? Usually those types of scenario's are stopped and ruled No contest.
