Why would the cause of the cut have any bearing on whether the fight was stopped or not?

Why would it have been a "brutal ko"? Even against one-eyed Barrera Khan didnt hurt him. We saw an impaired Barrera not get hurt at all really. All things being equal I would have liked to know how the fight would have panned out.

If Khan didnt have such worries about his chin he would/should have teed off on Barrera. He knows he has a glass jaw and that will always hold him back. At some point in his career he will need to open up- and when he does he is gonna be knocked out.

The rules state that if a cut is caused by an accidental headbutt and the fight ends before 4 rounds are complete, its ruled a no-contest.
There is no winner or a loser.....

......but if 4 rounds are completed, then the fight outcome goes to the scorecards, as it did with this here MAB-Khan fight.....

.....Khan did not win by KO or tko.....he won on the scorecards in a technical decision stoppage due to cuts.
If MAB would have been ahead on the cards at the time of stoppage, he would have been declared the winner.

.....thats why when ever there is a situation like this where a fighter is losing the rounds and just having a hell of a time seeing, their corner usually see's to it and complain to the referee that their fighter was headbutted and he cant see the punches coming.

Had MAB and his team done a better job of conveying this fact to the referee, they may have had the referee stap the fight before 4 rounds were complete, and the fight would have been ruled a no-contest......
....they likely would have done it again at a future date.

Of course, if a cut was caused by a punch, then if the fight is stopped, the fighter that is cut ends up losing by tko.....
When this scenario happens, the cut fighters corner will usually go on a campaign that there fighter is OK and can see, even if there fighter cant see....because they know that if it stopped, they lose.
Exactly what happened in Klitchko vs Lewis, the fight was stopped and Lewis was declared the winner by tko cuts stoppage because the cut was caused by a punch, even though Vitali wanted to continue.....

......had Vitali's cut been caused by a headbutt, they would have gone to the scorecards and Vitali would have been declared the winner because he was ahead on the judges scorecards.

In this case, MAB vision was being impaired by blood and he was getting his ass beat......there was no reason why MAB's corner should'nt have protested to the referee that the fight be stopped before they reached the 5th round.

....any trainer worth his salt would have been screaming at the ref that their fighter cant see and therefore cant continue......
.....had MAB's team done this, they would have gone back home to Mexicon with one less loss on his record.

this fight should've been stopped within the first 3 rounds and declared a no-contest (NC). blood was gushing profusely and uncontrollably out of that big gash caused by a headbutt. if it was accidental, then it's a no-contest. if deliberate, then the the boxer who gave the headbutt is DQ'd and the win awarded to the other guy.

And none of that in anyway answers the question as to why the cause of a cut should have any bearing on whether or not a fight is stopped....

Ok here's my final word on the matter. At NO point did I see Barreras corner making a fuss with either the doctor or the ref. Now, how come it's so obvious to you how bad the cut was and not them. They KNEW if it got stopped before the 4th that it would be ruled a NC yet they didn't....

    Strange no?

Barreras corner men didn't make half the fuss you guys are, it's pretty pathetic.
As I've said before, I feel it should have been stopped but have seen fights with equal/worse cuts carry on. Klitchko had a worse cut imo and guess what, from when it happened in the 3rd through to the 6th he was beating Lewis, and I'm a huge Lewis fan.

His cornermen should have got the doctor over before the 4th if they knew he couldn't perform. They were watching the same fight we were.

    End of!

When the cut is caused by a punch and the cut is bad enough that a stoppage is warranted, usuallly by courtesy the ref will give the cut fighter a round or two to seek a KO.....if the cut is'nt controlled the ref will stop the fight.

.....but when its caused by a butt, if the cut is bad enough that a stoppage is warranted, and more so if the cut fighter complains that he cant see the punches coming from the flow of blood to his eye......a ref will more than likely stop the fight......and rule it a no contest if four rounds were not completed....or go to the judges scorecards if 4 rounds were completed.

In this here case, the cut was flowing blood just as bad in the first round that it was in the 5th when it was stopped.......thus my question as to why the ref did'nt stop it earlier and my contention that MAB and his team did'nt sell their predicament to the referee that he could'nt see the punches coming.
If a fighter tells the referee, "hey, my vision is being impaired by the blood, I cant see the punches coming!".......the ref really has no choice but to stop the fight if you have a fighter complaining that he cant see.

MAB is saying now that he was just hindered and could'nt see the punches coming......but he did a lousy job of conveying that to the referee during the fight so that the fight would get stopped before 4 rounds were complete.

i don't want to go into conspiracy theories but this fight did happen in the UK, khan's territory. maybe the ref, the doctor and the fight officials there weren't too keen to stop it within 4 rounds and declare it a NC. i hope they didn't purposely wait until the 5th to finally stop it so that they can award the fight to khan rather than a NC.

This kind of makes the "Ghost" look a little smarter for ending his early.

    End of what?????

Had Vitali's corner gotten the doctor and complained that the cut was bad and he could'nt see, Lewis would have been declared the winner on the spot......
.....in that fight the cut was declared to have been caused by a punch.....

.....in this MAB fight, the cut was caused by an accidental headbutt.

A fight can only be ruled a no contest or go to the cards when the cut is caused by an accidental headbutt, and this was'nt the case with Vitali vs Lewis.

But thats my point. The cut was bad, Barreras corner knew it was accidental, they knew it would goto the cards after 4, they knew how bad the cut was and it's effect on their fighter, so why didn't they make a fuss?

Imo they didn't because they felt he could go the distance and that through time the bleeding would stem a little. It's the only logical explanation. As I've said already people here are making a bigger fuss than the guys own cornermen did.

Exactly, a fighter who gets a bad cut, will usually campaign to the ref to have it stopped, especially when he knows he has his hands full with the opponent even if he did'nt have the cut.

Stop twisting my words to suit your needs. My Klitchko point is NOTHING to do with his corner getting the ref involved, it's about a fighter improving even though he's got a massive cut. (notice the paragraphing)

Why do you insist on protecting Barrera more than his own cornermen did???
