    Boxing betting is a minefield

I heard Ladbrokes didn't pay on Khan in 5 either - as it went to a decision

They can't have it both ways

Same thing happend to me when i bet on Clottey vs. Zab Judah. I had money on
Clottey he won on points in the 9th after a headbut. My freind works in the bookies he looked in the big rule book for a way around it but turns out they dont need to pay on KO or points victorys if it is stopped pre maturely.

All bets with bookmakers are gentlemans agreements unfortunately. If you had bet Khan will win on a tech decision after the fight is stopped in the 5th from a cut sustained in the first due to a butt, they still do not have to pay you. Its entirely their choice. I am afraid you will be incredibly lucky to get paid.

I had Khan KO round 5 (25/1). I went to corals this morning and got my money. On the website for Coral and william hill it has the result as a ko/tko rd 5.

    That is utter pish.

So much so it's difficult to even know where to start.

    a) It's not a gentlemans agreement, there is a bet slip or other form of receipt.
    b) They are advertising that they will pay up bets so they are taking money under false pretences if they don't pay.
    c) even if it was a verbal agreement, verbal agreements are still legally binding as long as there is evidence to show the agreement took place (e.g. you can switch your gas supplier by phone).

For **** sake there is more of a case case for saying it's a gentlemans agreement when you pay for a pint in a pub.
If you went into Tesco's, ran your shopping through the till, paid for it and then some security gaurd type came up to you and took your shopping then told you to **** off, they were keeping your money and you weren't eating any dinner because it was a gentlemans agreement would you just shrug your shoulders and say "Damn those gentlemans agreements".
Bookies take bets, pubs sell drink, supermarkets food etc, you are entitled to get what you pay or rom any of them.

That must be the stupidest post I have ever read, including ones that say Amir Khan has an iron chin.

I have to admit I always thought that when you bet you are getting into a gentlemans agreement rather than any legally binding agreement.

If it was a question of honour you would never get paid, or at least they wouldn't bother comming up with bull**** excuses when they dont. There would be no need for maximum payouts or any of that because they could just refuse to pay.

If they take a bet and don't pay it out, it is no different to, say, selling a package holiday to a town that doesn't exist. It is FRAUD.

The bookies are licensed, they operate a business and are expected to provide a service. It's not like making a bet with your mate from work or something.

As I say, I stand to be corrected but I've been betting a long time and I've always been told and understood that it was a gentlemans agreement. The reason they couldn't just refuse to pay is that word would get around and, beleive it or not, bookies like a few big winners...it gets the punters in.

Could you imagine how far you'd get if you asked for a losing bet to be refunded because it wasn't a legally binding agreement when you handed over the money?

Perry Mason couldn't get your cash back for you.
