The doctor should have stopped it and ruled this a NC after the first round. Of course, I wouldn't expect that kind of thing to happen in England when they're desperately trying to make their guy look good after a brutal under a minute KO.
a british ref and doctor for a fight in the UK involving a british fighter who also has a british promoter. there was simply no chance this fight being stopped within 4 rounds and declared a NC. that's why they waited one more round (5th) to finally stop it and reward the technical decision to khan.
how can you get schooled in just 2 mins. of the first round?! :-( barrera probably just had one of his slow starts.
exactly, especially in this recession, you know how pissed people would have been to have it called off in round 1?
There has been a lot of hype about Khan-Barrera, the most since Hatton-Mayweather. If they stopped the fight in the first round that might have been a riot at the MEN, certainly a lot of unhappy PPV viewers.
well, they still had 3 more rounds after that to stop the fight and declare it a NC. but they conveniently waited one more round (5th) to finally stop it and reward khan with a technical decision instead.
If you bothered to read, I'm not so much questioning the ref or doctor for not stopping it.......I'm questioning MAB and his team for not conveying to the ref that he was under a severe handicapp and could'nt see.
Actually in all your comparisons, the cuts in those fights happened after the 4th round, and in all those fights, the cut fighter was visibly losing the fight......if you get headbutted past the fourth round and you know you're losing, logically you're going to campaign to the referee that you're fine and can continue, because to not do so would put a halt to the fight and you losing on the scorecards. .....and in any regards, none of those cuts you described were as bad as or flowing as much blood and MAB's cut that was flowing blood uncontrolably. In alot of those fights you mention, the cutman was able to sustain and even stop the flow of blood afterward.
Spot on. The Amir Khan hype brigade continues to sicken me. I can't wait to see a repeat of what happened against Prescott.
he was getting his ass beat, but ya I think that the doctor should have stopped it long before the fifth, cause that cut was horrible, but some homecooking with the fight doctor there.
Yes, it should have been a no decision. The way the referee did it was unjust. He just waited for the 5 round to give it to Khan. That's not how it should have been handled. In my book it will stay forever as no decision.
The referee didn't wait for the fifth round at all, he took Barrera over to the doctor in the fourth round. Which makes your statement clearly untrue.
You're still claiming that how a cut is caused should impact on whether or not a fight is stopped because of it. You still haven't given any justification for why that should be so. A referee or doctor's only consideration should be whether or not a fighter is fit to continue. Whether the cut in question is caused by a punch, head clash or whatever is utterly irrelevant to that decision.
