The Thing is paddy, although I've never been to a show in Ireland I've seen a lot on TV, and I've noticed that Irish crowds always seem to be quite respectful towards the opponent's which ordinarily is no bad thing, it just show the class of the Irish.

On this occasion though i think this respect should go out the window and you're dead right about the partisan aspect but do you think everybody else will be on the same page?

I dont agree with that. A fighter should be given the upmost respect on his way into the ring and out of it.

Cordoba should be given the respect he is due - he is a legitimate world champion and is coming to fight "our" fighter in his own backyard. Politely and quietly clap the guy on the way to the ring.

Go as mental as you want to support Bernard but that should not he at the expense of the respect that should be shown to the world champion! :good

Win at all costs is whats it all about. I will applaud Cordoba if he wins or loses AFTER THE FIGHT that is, but while he is fighting Bernard he is my ****ing enemy.

yeah thats something ive always been proud of as regards the respect shown to the opponents

but we must remember bernard has always been expected to win in previous bouts.

so hopefully the fact that he is underdog will kick the crowd into partizan gear!

but no doubt if cordoba wins i'll certainly give him a round of applause. but up until that final bell i hope the crowd will be baying for his blood!:hey

This time it's different, Could you imagine Dunne getting a polite and quiet welcome in Panama!
It would be the lion's den over there with Dunne and his trainers fearing for their lives if he won.

I'm not suggesting Death threat's or anything like that but we have to make this fella feel uncomfortable like he's fighting thousands of mile's from home and save the polite **** for after the fight no!

its counter productive to boo a fighter anyway. Just gets them up. Show your passion by supporting your fighter not by disrespecting the oppostion.

I remember when I was about seven and one of my old brothers was fighting in the Connaught championships and I boo'd his opponent on his way to the ring. My ould fella (also a boxer) gave me a punch in the side of the head and said he would kill me if he heard me doin that again - I said "doin wat?" - he said never boo a fighter, if he has the balls to get into the ring then afford him due respect.

Like I said its a. disrespectful, b. counter productive and c. embarassing

I absolutely see your point, and like I've already said the Irish crowd's that I've seen have always shown a lot of class, but i still don't like the idea of giving this guy a nice polite welcome.
