ESPN would be bankrupt and would have to change their format to Lifetime2 if these two were in charge.
Yeah, they bought the fight... they broadcasting a fight from Germany... made a special time slot for that fight on a Saturday in which they normally don't have fights... all as "filler". :rofl You're talking out of your ass.:yep If "filler" is what they are looking for, they sure as hell wouldn't have gone through the trouble of buying that fight. They could have shown reruns of past great fights if that is what they were looking for. It's funny how you guys act like there are all of these stubborn people out there who are crossing their arms, and will flat out refuse to turn the channel from basketball which is on all day long for one hour in order to watch a Heavyweight Championship boxing match.:-( It's also funny how all of the casual boxing fans that I talk to on a regular basis (who also watch the final 64 hardcore) are all now going to watch that fight on Saturday when it comes on. They didn't even know the fight was on until I told them, and now they are going to watch it. These are the same people who bet on all of these basketball games, have the betting boards going at work, ect.... You are creating a false reality. The second round of the final 64 is NOT the Super Bowl. Half of the people that I know who are following this tournament ( and I follow it too btw)... don't really sweat missing a game until the sweet 16.
Well, not really. vitlay against me would be a guaranteed KO too. And an early one. But it would hardly be compelling viewing. KO's sell when either a) both guy could possibly get the KO, making for an exciting, edge of the seat fight b) it's exceedingly brutal. Long, slow methodical breakdowns that end in a KO due to accumulation punching, are not spell binding matches. Case in point, Wlad v thomson. From the start, it was obvious Wlad was going to win, and by KO. but it was so painfully slow to get there, and so unspectacular when it did, it was mind numbingly boring. vitlay is not a KO puncher as in a "knock the other guys head off" fashion. I'm sorry, he's not. He hits pretty hard, pretty often, until eventually the other guy is done. It's a bloody effective style, but it's not spectacular. He's a TKO fighter, not a KO fighter. BTW - any time title fights are on free to air, it's a great thing. don't get me wrong. But this will not be a fight you'll put on to show casual fans, and say "look at this for a great KO". Put on Hagler v Hearns. Or Tyson at his rampaging best. Or Lewis v Golota or Grant. Or Tua v Ruiz (please, just for the sheer pleasure of seeing it again). Vitlay will win in the mid to late rounds due to accumulation punching. It's nailed on. It will not be compelling viewing, for casual fans.
Definitely. A couple highlights, a commercial, or an interview for a Heavyweight World Championship fight that is already booked and scheduled to air on ESPN would definitely send that Network sprawling to it's knees.
Now you're backtracking. First, you're saying they should promote the "****" out of it, now you're willing to settle for an interview or a couple highlights, which I could actually agree with, but still doesn't satisfy your suggestion for all-out aggressive marketing for a fight hardly anyone cares about. You don't sound real resolute now with your opinion.
I dont agree with a lot of what you've said in this thread Widdow, but slapping a few dodgy ads together and slipping them in would have absolutely minimal cost. Here's a great conspiracy theory. Maybe one guy purchased the fight, but the program director doesn't want high ratings so that they can show what a waste of money boxing is, and not buy any more. He can then allocate that money to rodeos and bass fishing (his passions) in the future. Or poker. More poker. So fat old guys can call themselves sportsmen now too.
Well, on ESPN's webpage, boxing is sports near the bottom under the "other sports" category. ESPN hardly ever covers boxing on its show "Sportscenter". When it does, it is small tidbits, even DLH-Mayweather and DLH Pacquiao were sidenotes in the program. Other then quality fights on ESPN classic, and ESPN's FNF (thank god for it), I get the picture that to the network as a whole boxing is a pretty shunned sport.
Last point. I hate Dana White. But even he's not dumb enough to compete with CBS. Look at the UFC schedule. Nada this month.
OMFG, I honestly feel like I am teaching a Kindergarten class. :tired I am going to bed now. There is no hope for you.
Your right. Considering that I own my own business... I guess I don't technically have a "job". Nice comeback, thanks for cementing what I just said about the kindergarten class even further with your lame comment.:good Go ahead and come back now calling me a liar so that everyone (which is a lot) who personally know who I am on this website can sit and laugh at your pathetic attempts to insult me.
