GL: Can you give us some thoughts on Wright-Williams and tell us why you think your guy is going to win?

DG: Like Arreola, Paul's on his way to making history. He won't be the first to have achieved it, but it hasn't been done for over a half century. Henry Armstrong defied the odds and all logic simultaneously fighting in a multitude of weight divisions. Williams, out of necessity, is doing the same. After regaining his Welterweight World Championship in June of 2008, he couldn't find any other welterweights willing to step in with him and went up to Middleweight to get a fight. In the fight after middleweight, Paul went down to Jr. Middleweight and won another World Championship after unsuccessfully seeking to defend his Welterweight Championship against a worthy challenger. Antonio Margarito, Shane Mosely, Michael Jennings, you name them they waffled. Now he's going back up in weight to challenge what is sure to be his biggest prize yet in the middleweight division, Winky Wright. Wright has beaten Shane Mosely twice, Felix Trinidad, toe-to-toe with Jermain Taylor and Bernard Hopkins and Paul now has the opportunity to capitalize on what is sure to be a hard-fought Punisher style victory. This is the fight that puts Paul's name at the top of the pound-for-pound list.

GL: Do you think the winner of this fight deserves to fight Pavlik next and what do you think of Pavlik's recent opponents?

DG: First the question is backwards. Does Pavlik deserve a shot against Williams with a victory over Wright? Paul has said recently that he would like to reclaim his Welterweight Championship. Who would take up that challenge? Shane Mosely? Miguel Cotto? You would have to ask those guys, but I don't figure they would rush to sign on the dotted line. There are no more excuses for another world champion not to step into the ring with Paul Williams, or should I say acceptable excuses. Can you imagine Paul beating Winky at middleweight and ready to fight for the championship he was forced to give up at 147-pounds? That would be history! Then at 154-pounds we have another champion in the WBO that is willing to fight Paul and quite frankly that alone qualifies him to be a real possibility in Sergiy Dzinziruk. Now we come to the middleweight division and you have Kelly Pavlik, the man that had a Williams fight but let the money interfere with better sense and proceeded to lose to a man that should be working his corner rather than beating him inside the ring in Hopkins. If Pavlik continues to challenge fighters such as he did last month, he will not have earned his right to get into the ring with Paul. Now if going between welterweight and middleweight didn't impress anyone, which would be virtually impossible to fathom, the fight that I heard George Peterson and Paul tell some media at our LA press conference on who they would want next with a victory over Wright was, get this, Bernard Hopkins. Is that big enough for you Greg? I would like to hear from all of your readers on their thoughts on Paul against Winky on April 11 and of course some of the names that I just mentioned here.

A few thoughts. Number 1, Goosen is completely out of line by suggesting that Pavlik needs to earn a shot at Williams. Pavlik is the champ. Williams is a contender. Williams needs to earn his shot at Pavlik. Number 2, Williams isn't fighting Hopkins. That's a completely ridiculous idea. Number 3, there are some great fights out there for Williams if he truly intends to campaign between 147 and 160. I hope some of these fights happen.

Pavlik is middleweight champion, Williams will be fighting for his titles if they fought, not the other way around. I don't think Williams should fight at 147 again. I suspect his body really can't handle dropping that much weight anymore. In a couple years, Williams could rule the middleweight division. Abraham and Pavlik will move up in weight, and Sturm is just chillin in Germany happy to hold his middleweight belt. I don't see anyone else at 160 better than Williams when Pavlik and Abraham are gone.

Goosen is delusional. I would pick pretty much any middleweight with a great jab to terrorize Williams. He doesn't keep his hands up, nor does he use much head movement. Winky will jab this poor ******* silly. And Pavlik? Forget about it. The lack of head movement combined with the low hands would lead to Kelly making the double-jab/right-hand work extremely well, and it's over in 5 rounds.

If I'm right, and Winky gets past Williams, I think we'll see Pavlik/Wright pretty quick. There's bad blood there, and this fight has been brewing since at least 2006. If Winky does beat Williams, that would mean he is a long, long way from shot, and Pavlik/Wright would become the most important fight at 160. Winky is a better name than Abraham, he's a better fighter than Abraham, stylistically he's a much bigger challenge, and he is more widely respected than Abraham.

I actually think Williams has pretty good head movement.

Okay -- For the sake of debate, let's say you're right and I'm wrong. Now look at Wright and Pavlik. Winky's jab is not that powerful, and Pav's jab is not exactly lightening fast, but he did go jab for jab with JT twice. Do you think Paul's head movement is good enough to keep from getting peppered by Winky's accuracy, or beat up by Pavlik's jack hammer. Considering the way he positions his hands most of the time, I do not.

If the Winkman is still the same fighter, he should win this fight pretty convincingly if Paul Williams is willling to stand up and trade with him.

My guess is that Paul Williams is going to try and "patty cake" him to death just like the Margarito fight.

I see snoozer written all over this one.

I agree with you about Winky. I've made a lot of posts on this subject, but I always use the word "if" multiple times. At this point Winky is an open question; did Winky rest, or rust?

We'll find out very shortly whether or not his head movement against Winky.

No surprise Boo beat me to using "delusional". Goosen can say what he wants. He jacked Arum around so bad in negotiations for Pavlik/Williams, Arum won't even talk to him now. Williams will now have to earn the mandatory spot to get a shot, not the other way around. :patsch

Yes, but this is all according to Arum. Pavlik, Goosen, and Williams all have a different story to tell.

Paul Williams can cross any Top Rank fighter off the list as I get the feeling Arum will not throw him any sort of a bone. Mosley and Dzindziruk would be good fights for all parties involved. I for one would love to see Williams vs Dzindziruk.

The thing about this strategy of calling out the world is brilliant. That way even when he doesn't get the fight, the people who believe that "calling someone out" is the be all end all will look at him and assume that he's "being ducked".

Pavlik? He said he wasn't keen on fighting a welter weight cuz he wouldn't get any respect for it. Everyone knew the money Arum was offering for the fight up front. He supposedly even upped it some for Williams. Up from $1.25 to $1.5 mil? Not enough for a challanger?
