Dude, Mayweather does absolutely nothing in the ring that captures the imagination of the casual fan at 147. At welterweight he is too fearful of getting caught with something big. You will never see him in the ring with any big punchers at 140 or 147. If he takes on either Mosley, Cotto, pac, or JMM, it will be a miracle!! My guess is that he will fight Hatton again win or lose...and it won't be at 140, should he decide to return to the ring. He will fight Hatton again at 147...he is a fighter that is very calculated in his decision making...if he doesn't have the clear-cut advantage, he won't take the fight.
The numbers prove you otherwise. Anyone can come out and state their opinion. Without anything to back it up, it's just that, an opinion. Hell, I could say Mayweather is the most exciting fighter of all time. The statement means little without anything to back it up Judah and Hoya were both big punchers. Don't be silly. Ah, so he had the clear cut advangtage when he went up in weight and fought Oscar, and let Oscar pick out the ring and his gloves? He had the clear cut advantage against Judah as well. You mention him fighting Hatton at 147, how come Hatton wouldn't fight him when they were at 140? That's a fight Floyd wanted and Hatton refused to entertain? How come Mosley passed on multiple opportunities to fight Floyd?
he only commands big PPV because of who he is fighting, de la hoya and hatton are his biggest paydays by far. and de la hoya and hatton were the 1's bringing the majority to the table. not mayweather. he did run against de la hoya. there wouldnt have been much of a fight if de la hoya didnt keep the pressure on.
Hatton sold 1.4 million PPV buys in the UK at 4am. what was the total, just under 2 mil? says it all really. Also, most fights hatton has had since tszyu has been PPV in the UK. The world is bigger than america.
So you're telling me that Hatton( a fighter whos fans mostly reside in England) was the one who brought the majority of those 850 K American ppv buys to the table? He's the one who's mostly responsible for the fight selling out in America in under an hour despite his fans only being alloted under 4k tickets? This is what you're telling me? How come none of Hatton's other American fights have been on PPV or even sold out despite his fans having unlimited access to tickets in those fights? And no, Mayweather did not run against Hoya. Did you even watch the fight?
The fight did 850K buys in America, that is a huge number I'm talking about the American numbers. If you just look at the American numbers, the fight was a great success. So how exactly was Hatton responsible for putting up those numbers in the States? And while you're mentioning Hatton's ppv's in the UK, what were the biggest PPV numbers he put up excluding the Mayweather fight?
Hatton was responsible for selling the majority of the tickets against mayweather. that is a fact. 850K in america, is that all? 1.4 mil in the UK of which was definatly 99% hatton. 3900 tickets were allocated to hatton actually, and did you see how many hatton fans were actually in the arena? alot more than 3900 wasnt it mate! 35,000 brits in las vegas for a 3900 allocation says it all. heck floyd hasnt got 3900 fans. your in denial if you claim he didnt run against de la hoya.
Judah was coming off of a loss against Baldi and DLH has never been an effective aggressor...everyone knew going into this fight that Goldie was not going to win. Hatton does not like fighting at 147...given the chance, Hatton would love a rematch at 140...isn't going to happen...not at 140. Floyd had a great year in 2007, probably his best since 2001. Athough the results were impressive, most casual fans feel that the actual fights weren't... and yes, that is their opinion!!
Hatton subsequent fight was shown on versus in America Hatton has virtually no following in America, so those states ppv numbers for his fight with Floyd has to be attributed to Mayweather. Only a fool would think otherwise
That's pure fantasy. If Hatton is such a big ticket draw in America, how come none of his other fights here have come close to selling out? And remember, his fans has unlimited access to those tickets. More fantasy numbers. If Hatton was resposnsible for 99% of the ppv buys in the U.K then surely he has other fights that have comparable ppv numbers. This doesn't even make sense. First off, 3,900 tickets were alloted Hatton fans(meaning they were originally sold in the U.K), not Hatton himself. The arena only held 16,000. No way in the world would the give Hatton almost 25% of the tickets. Now more than 3,900 may have aquired tickets via resale, but onlt 3,900 were orginally available to sale to Brits. The rest were sold to in America. You're either delusional, didn't see the fight, or don't know what running is if that's your claim.
Please tell me how any of this proves that either one aren't big punchers? Hatton was offered a chance to fight Floyd when they were both at 140, and Hatton tucked his tail between his legs and ran. He even admitted that he wasn't ready(he'll never be ready for Mayweather). I also find it odd that Hatton never made any attempt to fight Floyd at a catchweight. It seemed like he was all for the fight being at 147(probably because he knew he would get his ass kicked regardless) What exactly are you basing this on? What, did you conduct a poll?
it doesn't...it proves that Floyd takes a fight where he has the obvious advantage. Judah isn't a huge puncher at 147...who has he KO'd at that weight? And, Goldie was way past his prime and, again, is not an effective aggressor...never has been. As for the Hatton fight...Hatton completely miscalculated Floyd's deceptive power. He genuinely thought that he would be the stronger man in the ring at 147. This is originally why he didn't want the fight until he was at 147. As for the opinion of most casual fans after both mega pay-per-views, just speaking with every casual fan that I know who saw both fights and reading the enormous amount of disappointed reviews on the internet after the fight from people who don't usually watch boxing on a regular basis...is that good enough for you?
Great as he is he still needs to a tune up fight and it says alot about a Hall Of Famer who comes out of retirement and fight a Great Champion Like JMM as a Tune Up Fight! JMM is very dangerous. He figures you out during the fight and adjusts his game plan many fail only greats can do this.
why wasnt it a big event when hatton fought spaddi? I even missed it on tv had to use on demand. Every floyd fight is a big event. Cant say teh same for hatton
