This is so wrong on so many levels. (We're getting away from ESPN not promoting their own show, which is crazy, but anyway..)

HBO may have learnt their lesson from the Wlad Iggy fight, which was the equivalent of watching paint dry. Perhaps their customers have told them "don't try and sell me that rubbish again".

Secondly, how the **** do you know that HBO would have broken even?

Do you know what they were being quoted to buy the feed?
What it would cost to put it on?
What the 'back office' expenses are for a show like that?
How many subscriptions they would get, at the price?
How much of that would go to them, and how much would go to the supplier of the program?
What the perceived take up rate would have been for the fight?

Of course you ****ing don't. TV networks are like any other business. They do the maths. If it's probably going to make money, they'll do it. If not, they won't.

AS somebody else said, now is a tough time to try and get 50 bucks out of A LOT of people to watch a Ukranian/German fight a Cuban/German, in Germany.

The champ is a guy that's fought ONCE in four years. A guy that may or may not be as good as his brother. Fighting a guy most guys have never even heard of.

half your criticism should be applied to the guy whose post i replied to. It seems like just cause his post fits your agenda, you say nothing of it.

What? That's fine, I don't care who it's directed at.

Point is, nobody can come on here say that it would have made money for HBO and Showtime. I'm assuming those networks did the sums, and it didn't add up.

Didn't mean it to be personal.

    i didn't take it personal.

Maybe the networks did the sums, and they all found that it added up, and ESPN was the one who came out with it. Maybe ESPN felt that the timeslot fit better into its schedule. Maybe a bunch of things. You can't just assume those networks did the sums and it didn't add up, and then criticize me for assuming it did.

Which goes back to Widdows point in the first post.

If they think they can make money from the fight, why aren't they advertising it themselves, and promoting the **** out of it?

Kind of like Siegfried and Roy, or Boy George and George Michael.

Well, I'm back on the board and it's clear to all he never answered my question about the FACT (See WIDOW, FACT) that CBS's coverage goes from NOON to 10PM ET on Saturday, and ESPN's coverage of the fight goes from 5PM-6PM ET...and yet no witty commentary from the kindergarten cop.

    OUCH!
